Sudden braking / VDC Shut Off Issue

Hello Everyone,

I have been searching the internet looking for an issue like mine and have found a lot of information, but noting that matches up exactly. I'm hoping the community here can help. I am untrained, well youtube trained mechanic that does all the work on my own cars as long as I have the tools needed for the job. I replaced my rack and pinion last weekend because the seals were failing, but am now having some issues. There seems to be a power steering fluid leak coming from the pressure line, but it seems to be from where it's going up to the pump and not where it connects to the rack. The main issue, however is that when I start driving it you can feel a jolt and hear a quick noise (I think it's the front wheels locking momentarily) and then the VDC off light comes on and it drives fine after that. when the car jolts like the front wheel is locking only for a moment the slip light flashes quickly and then as soon as the VDC off light turns on the slip light is gone. If I start the car and hit the VDC off button before I start driving then I don't have an issue, so I believe there is something causing the VDC system to lock the front wheel before the VDC system turns itself off. The other issue of note is that the air bag light is flashing now and it never has before.

Does anyone have any idea of what I could have done while installing the new rack and pinion to cause the VDC to lock the front wheel and the air bag light to be on?

Is that power steering line rusted? Could it have developed a crack upstream when you played with the rack?
If the line is damaged, it's not the end of the world, as you can manufacture your own out of cupro-nickel line which you can buy from NAPA or Amazon and flare with a flaring tool from Amazon. And you likely able to re-use fittings. All you need beyond that would be the flare wrench.
