Now the S13 is officially 10 years old now. According to Nissan. I believe that federal law says that factories are only required to keep parts for 10 years after the end of a model run.

The fact sunk in today when I went to order new quarter window clips for the red vert I'm working on, and I was told by the distro that the parts were no longer available.

Alan's right. 98 was the last 180sx model year run. Although it'll be harder to source new Nissan parts, it's not impossible. There are also, no doubt, many many parts sitting on dusty Nissan warehouse shelves.

Pinnacle sourced a new OEM Nissan gas tank for a 1984 PL720(2wd pickup) for me, along with a bus load of other parts, all with faded labels, all dusty, all new-in-the-box. How cool is that!?!

^agreed. As stated above, there will be gobs upon gobs of parts left on warehouse shelves. It may just take some searching. Nissan won't deny getting you a part if they can. It's all about making money.

Man, you just reminded me. My S14 was manufactured 9/94, which makes it officially 10 years old now... that sucks

gabossie. you have to look at the model run, not your specific year. The last year for the S14 was 98, so Nissan is required to keep parts until 2008.

getting certain parts shouldn't be too hard for a few more years, but the convertible specific parts will be more of a pain since they weren't produced in the quantities that the coupe and hatch were. I'm gonna call up ASC tuesday and see if they can still get some of the convertible specific stuff

i highly doubt all the distributors will get rid of the parts. look how much the S chassis has blown up in the last 5years. im sure they will keep the parts to make some money

That's the beauty of NICO...our members are wrecking 240SX's all the time. Seriously, post something in the B/S/T forums. People are always parting stuff out.

Most do man. At least everybody that I've seen on car-part.com does.

Just sucks when you're trying to ship a transmission or something.

When I find a good S13 coupe, I should probably buy a parts car as backup.

Back when I had my AE86, I didn't have much trouble finding new parts through the dealer. Not sure if it had anything to do with it's popularity, but Nissan should do the same.

I was at my Nissan dealership today to order a headlight part. Talked to the guys who work in parts. They were pretty much unaware of the 10 year rule. They said they regularly fill parts orders for Nissans made in the 80's. One of the parts techs said he finds all kinds of parts for Zs and Nissans from the 70s with no difficulty. He told me the only area that they will basically stop making parts is the interior such as trim, etc. Otherwise he said I shouldn't worry about finding any parts for the 240SX for the engine or anything mechanical for at least another 10 years. Those comments brightened my day for sure.

Just my two cents.

Who said I was crying?! Where did that come from? That was uncalled for.

I didn't bring up the question about 10 years, the person who started this thread did. I was just trying to pass on what I heard with the hope that it would relieve any concerns.

my two four might be old but I still love it. Nothing like late 80's styling to make me cream my pants
