So, one day, after passing emissions magically, my car starts stuttering at 3500rpm and then it's fine after passing that rpm. Cool, boost leak or something. Did the same thing when the vacuum hose that goes to actuator ripped a little. I'll fix it later. THEN, it starts stuttering from 3500 all the way to red line. Well, ****, I guess I better fix the boost leak. I check everything. Disconnect boost gauge, boost controller, BOV, plug up the vacuum runners and make sure the pipes are on well. You know, it could be the turbo gasket! That guy sucks at life! So, I make sure all nuts are still there. They're all JDMtyte (I used locking washers). Problem still there. Now day before yesterday, it started sucking after 2500rpm and when I got home and took a look at it, the turbo was glowing red. WTF I hadn't even been getting on it and it was like a 20 mile freeway drive.

Also, dunno if it's related, but my engine developed an oil leak. Probably the valve cover gasket, but can't tell exactly where. Might be related. Might not. Who knows. I also hear a ticking exhaust leak, but I don't know where it's coming from either. Might be a manifold gasket? Would that cause such tremendous sucking!? I really don't want to take the turbo apart.

Anyway, any ideas?

Hi,

Well if the manifold gasket or the gasket between the turbo and the manifold is gone bad which is known to do so, you will lose some good power.

It is not unusual for the turbo to glow, they all do after a bit of reving, but I would check your turbo for free spining, it might be getting seized, I have a seen few turbos where they start to seized and was causing some hesitation on lower rpm then at higher rpm they will spool which later on the turbo siezed.

Good luck,PULSAR GTR

my old turbo was glowing red alot.. and alot of ppl said i mey be running too rich.. but i just think the turbo was giving *** .. cuz that one was boosting but leaking oil.. got a used one of a sr and doesnt glow anymore.. my manifold glows a bit after a lil bit of hard driving but thats normal.. and alot of ppl said its normal for the turbo to glow some.. but my old one would glow to the point where it looked like it was gonna melt.. heh. and that was just after like 3 mins down the road..

Running lean usually causes high EGTs which would explain your hesitant running and glowing turbo. Check the condition of your injectors and fuel system, your mixture sounds bad.

I changed the spark plugs and it changed the stuttering to a hessitation at 5,000 rpm. Weird!!
