That captain knows his ship. Props! Especially since he lowered it and made it faster w/o feeling the need for $4k in stereo equipment.

That kinda stuff happens a lot when you live in a port city. Ships have to come in with full bunkers when they come up the Willamette. It's awesome during the Rose Fest here in Portland, standing on one of the bridges, and watching the Navy ships try to squeeze under.

I'm guessing that ship is so high tech that there's like a sensor or something that tells you your current height. One foot is just too close to "guesstimate."

That being said though, even tens of thousands in damage wouldn't offset the cost of a ship full of unhappy passengers. So they probably figured they were making it past that bridge one way or another.

Not only that but they allowed the passangers to be on deck while it went under the bridge. I call publicity stunt to endorse this new ship. Too much weird going on.

They probably had some poor schmuck standing on the roof with a walkie talkie to warn the captain about his continued employment outlook. The skipper swings a pendulous sack indeed.

Oh, they definitely used spotters. Coming under one of the bridges here in Portland, my recruiter said their ship had 18 inches of clearance.

I'd have to jump up and stick my gum on the bridge on the way under. How many times do you get a chance like that?

Neat, but.... these guys are absolute professionals and knew exactly what was going to happen. You take no chances with a ship that cost $1,500,000,000.00. If your eyes cross counting the zeros, that is 1 billion, 500 million green backs!

Supposedly, they're using GPS as well as surveying equipment (lasers).
