i wanted to know if anyone has successfully installed a turbo from an 89-91 probe. i still have my ****ty probe sitting in the driveway and was gettin some ideas. i am not lookin for big gains. just an xtra 30-40 hp. what will i need to reach this other than the turbo, intercooler, manifold. can i get away w/ stock injectors? any input would help. i know it is a small setup, i just want somwthing to hold me over till i get an xtra ka to build a real setup.

you will need a better fuel setup. if you only want 30-40 hp then you could get away w/ just an fmu. you will need some piping for the ic and you will need a downpipe.

fmu=fuel management unit. they come in different ratios such as 8:1 which means it raises fuel pressure 8psi for every 1psi of boost. this forces the injectors to flow more fuel as boost increases. fmu and safc do the same thing just in very different ways. the safc is a piggyback computer that will allow better tuning. most low boost kits come with a fmu because they are cheap and allow the use of stock injectors. obviously, you do not want to run large amounts of boost on a fmu because there will be unsafe amounts of fuel pressure and stock injectors will eventually sieze and stay open. you may or may not need a boost controller. if you can find a wastegate with a spring set for the same amount of psi you want to run then there is no need.

do some more research on the fmu if you are interested in it. there is alot of information about it on here

the probe was a 2.2 and the turbo bosted to 12 befor it was pushing red which went to 15psi. it also ha a fmic (all be it a small one, its still bigger than the topmount intercolers on some of the fwd SRs)

p.s. i have beaten 5.0's v-tecs and all that rice **** w/ it (the probe). so dont sleep on them, cause if u find one that is running right im sure it will surprise you.

I just hate fords. from experience. had one. never going back. EVER.I used to say "except the trucks" but then my friend's dad got a 48,000 dollar truck (crew cab long bed dually diesel, leather captains chairs, etc) and the way the windshield is mounted, it cracked from the base of the windshield up after he had it like a week. He took it into ford and they wouldn't fix it under warranty. jesus............
