nicely done.

have you thought of a grill cover for the speaker to protect it from damage or are you going to use the one it comes with?

That looks pretty good man, how many layers of mat is that? Doesnt feel flimsy or anything?

Like mentioned before. I dont know the exact level of bass your looking for here, but if you go with one of those lower brand 8"s with 100-250 watts, like the CVR or the L5, I think youll be pretty disappointed. Id would definetely go with the L7 8" and give it the 350+rms

It is only a single 8" sealed side firing

But good job on the glass work and trim job, I think I would def pick up some texture beige paint and try and make it look factory though, dark carpet would look silly, they may sell beige cabinet carpet

Nice work man love to see new fabricated work.

I agree with WOT on the sub situation and painting the cover rather than carpeting.

IMO carpeting would look really silly.

WOT, the box is two layers of mat, plus 2 layers of biaxial (nonwoven cloth with two layers of strands at 45 degrees to the edges... really great stuff). There are probably 5 layers of glass at the corners. There are also internal braces, an "X" on each large face, made of wood and glass. It's very strong, and very stiff- real happy with the way it came out. Everything was done with marine epoxy rather than polyester resin. It's pretty heavy, definitely overbuilt- but I'm not trying to mass produce these, or produce the most cost effective product so I erred on the side of caution

And yeah... from what you guys are saying I'm starting to give the L7 some real thought. Plus, tomorrow's my high school graduation, Sunday's the party; lots of relatives= lots of $$. Maybe I will then be willing to throw down the extra $50 for the better L7

i just came across this thread, and i'm wondering what the end result was like. I wanted to use that same compartment for a sub as well cuz i wanna save the cargo space.

So... Where's the update with pics? haha

Used to have a couple of 8" s in the altima, they were Bose, and didn't really do s***. I was dissapointed in the lack of sound. I wouldn't expect anything too much from that little side box. Most 8" subs probably won't produce enough power to even rattle on the outside. If you even get to hear a difference with a single 8, you'll MOST likely want more sound than you will be getting. But don't get me wrong; the first place i thought about putting a sub was in the little storage slot. Here is what what I'm running w/out sacrificing too much cargo room.

i used to run 2 12" Rockford Competitions in my old car before getting the pathy. i sacrificed my trunk to have those.. But right now, i want a little extra bass to enhance the sound. I also haul lots of photo and medical equipment. so i need the space.

oh, and i don't need a loud system, and this is my reason..

I feel like i probably posted the final results somewhere else, but since this thread seems to have been dug back up I'll post some of the final pics and stuff. Im incredibly happy with the results, and this sub ABSOLUTELY can be heard from outside the car (I went with the L7). I never turn it up more than half way. I can still easily carry 4x8 sheet goods, which is important for me. badlovesong; this is a great option for you, but it's definitely a pretty involved and time consuming process. Here's some more pics... let me know if you have questions (thats an amazing picture by the way).

Man, that came out great! I expect it to be involved whenever you do something custom. But i have the patience. If at all possible, i'd like to retain the original cover. I won't know till i spend the time to do this.

About the picture, thanks!

Just found this thread, awesome work. Doesnt look like op or many others still on site. Anyone else do anything like this or have any other ideas? No glass skills. Was the amp and sub added to stock BOSE system?

I just noticed his fuse is back at the amp, I thought you always wanted the fuse as close to the battery as possible? Or does it not matter?

cute kid, abad!

asnorton, yes you want the fuse near the batt so that if the wire shorts out on some metal somewhere, you dont have a length of "hot" wire running through your car... its a fire hazard if you don't have a fuse near the batt.

Nick....I need to build this box, or buy one if you need the extra cash. Is there anyway you could set up a step by step process on this box? I have been looking at vids on youtube but I don't know how to even begin. Any help is appreciated! Please let me know.
