Exodus Audio, with owner and designer Kevin H. and engineer Dan Wiggins from Adire Audio have come out with a 21" subwoofer that's actually worth a damn!

Quite a few crappy large subs have come out (look up Clarion and Audiobahn for examples), but this one looks like it could be more than just a gimmick. It may actually work and work well.

It's based off their already popular Maelstrom-X 18 (pictured)...or at least the motor is, everything else is different.
Kevin Haskins wrote:Latest news on the prototypes from Wiggins. He is in China at our factory to oversee final production on the latest run of Maelstrom-18"s. They tested the final prototypes on the Gen II Shiva, Tempest & the 21" Maelstrom.

Here is a quote from Wiggins on the M-21""The Maelstrom 21 – it is a BEAST. The two protos are dead-quiet even at 60mm p-p at 15 Hz. One of my car audio clients was with me today, and his jaw hit the ground when he saw that sucker moving and not making a sound. DEAD silent, and it’s a monster. "

I'm pumped, the Maelstrom-18s should be on a boat by early next week, and the 21" is probably 60-75 days out.

Obviously a 21" subwoofer cone, weighing 500g, moving over 2" peak to peak will produce quite a bit of sound and also require quite a hefty box! Fat chance getting this to fit in most Nissans without having to remove the back seats.

That said, I'd like a pair for my house!

I'd like to have a pair in their own cabinets.....and work on building another pair of 3 way cabinets.

It would be awesome for drum & bass.

For that application, if you do want a 21" sub, B&C makes a 21" woofer that would work great.http://www.usspeaker.com/B&C-21SW150-1.htm

Danley labs just released 2 new subs. One is a dual tapped horn using 2 of those woofers. Max output is 145db. It's designed for movie theaters, music venues, ect... http://www.danleysoundlabs.com...20221

There is an iMax in Chicago that uses four of his Danley TH50's. Once I am done building my HT system, my next project is to copy one of his designs.

BTW, neither of those 21's listed would be good for a 3way cabinet design. (sub)woofer use only.

If you want a high output 3-way, high efficiency 15's are the way to go. The speakers I'm building are similar to this, but with a single 15 (not dual 12's) and a different mid. Same tweeter.

...or twin 12's like in the Seaton Catalysts (I'd like to copy that design too)

Once you start getting into high output systems, you'll soon find your tweeter is your weak point.
