Well guys, I'm taking the plunge! I priced full blown systems minus head-deck using JL's Cleansweep/Audio Control6-/8. With replacing stock door/deck speakers using Focal components and the sub, it was over 4k! So, I decided to go with a kick-a$$ sub setup, using factory head deck/speakers. MTX has an awesome new amp line-up that can take high-level speaker outputs! So, were going to disconnect the midbass rear speakers, and solder on the RCAs for the amp-to the high level input.

Here's the equipment list:

MTX TA7801MTX T7510-04 x2Dynamat trunk kit

With labor (custom box behind the rear seat/ with trim), the total is just under 2k.

Anyone with a similar setup?

Anyway, it's installed!

Audio Designs of Atlanta did the install, and I must say, they did an excellent job! The sound is a dramatic improvement over stock; you'd be amazed with the effect of adding a bit of low-end makes. I was concerned at the size of the Subs, but the 10"? MTX hit hard (especially with 1800 watts thrown at them).

I was correct in my assessment of the problem, no low end. The Bose speakers are complemented when they don't have to produce bass. This setup is perfect for the G35, due to the midbass speakers in the rear. They simply disconnected them, and soldered the leads for the amp. The new MTX line has a toggle for the input level (Hi/speaker-level, Low/RCA). Which means that no signal adapters are needed, such as JL's CleanSweep, or Audio Controls signal summing unit.

After this is paid off (hey I just bought a 34k car!), the next step is to change out the stock speakers and the stock head-deck. For that, I'll need the console piece that allows for the relocation of the A/C controls. I'll probably get a touchscreen DVD unit.

I'll post some pics soon of the sub/amp setup.

As promised, here are the pics!

The system hits extremely hard! I had to buy the dynomat liscense plate holder to stop the plate from coming off... The overall sound is even better than I expected it to be. You don't have to replace the deck/speakers to have great sound! Audio Designs of Atlanta did the work, check out their website:

Ohh it's in the works! I just have to pay off this first! lol I'd like to upgrade the console with the double din ($350), and get a touchscreen DVD unit (800-1000). I'll probably do that next along with a comp. set for the front/rear ($400x2). And of course another amp ($600)...$$$!!!

So as you can see there is a reason for doing the low end first, as it's the most bang-for-the-buck. I've heard good comp. speaker set-ups in many cars, including my last one which had MB Quart and RF punch X comp. plus RF 6.5 coax, all driven by an MTX 5604 amp/ and 2 Kenwood DB+ 12s with an MTX 500d. The 2005 G35 Bose system sounds damn close (actually plays louder and hits harder) with the added low end!

Have you heard the 05-06 G35 premium systems? I know they upgraded the deck to play MP3's. Also, they no longer use the 1 amp per speaker philosophy (there's only 1 amp for all 8 speakers). Maybe it sounds better than the previous versions, or other Bose set-ups for other cars?

I don’t really need any advice on my system; I just wanted to give people ideas for their cars, and show off my beauty! (Isn’t that what forums are for?) Plus being able to see the finished product and who did the work is helpful for those with similar ideas.

Much louder!! Because there is no box between the trunk and the rear seat, the volume has increased by a few DB for sure!

The main reason for the redo was to give me more room in the trunk for baby stuff...I can fit a stroller back there now

Looks like they did some pretty nice work. I've always been a big fan of mtx stuff my self. you ever end up getting a double din?

I like that second set up! I'm planning on selling my car and getting a coupe. If you don't mind me asking, how much dic the custom enclosures for your subs run you?

Nope, never did go with a new deck. If/when my OEM dies, I'll go DD.

I worked with a custom installer in my driveway...he charged me $800 for everything (labor/materials). Took about 6 days with him taking the enclosures home to finish. I was surprised at how expensive fiberglass materials can be.

Anyway, I love the new setup! I need to sell my old box...it's just sitting in my spare bedroom!

Do you plan on recovering the factory panels in the same color carpet as the MDF panels?
