Hey everyone. I'm looking to get a new set of 10" subs, since mine are old and one is blown. The system came with the vehicle. I have a Rockford Fosgate 400w amp to run them. I listen to all kinds of music so I'm looking for a good all around sub. Something that hits decently hard, but is also good sound quality. Looking to spend around 100-125 apiece. Any recommendations would be great. Thanks.

I have one 12" Infinity Perfect sub in my car powered by a 600 watt MTX amp, and I'm impressed with it. If you get lucky you might even get a deal for a 10" in your price range.

Some people on eBay are probably selling brand new ones for fairly cheap.

If you are looking to spend only that amount and if you only want to get two 10's (not a 12 perhaps?) I would recomend JL Audio W0's. You can get a set of 10's for around 200, give or take a few extra dollars. They are great for sound quality and aren't very easy to underdrive them either.

If you could just decide to go with a single 12 inch, I would HIGHLY recomend the Alpine Type R sub. Very very good sub with great sound quality. That RF amp would push it great too!

Hope this helps.....

hmm well 100 to 125 a piece interesting. well i suggest get a single 12 " rather than 2 10s if u r going to run a single 400W amp. but well newayz if u want two 10s i would suggest fosgate punch woofers. great sound. if not then try pioneer or was it kenwood? well i 4got but they are the light greyish silverish ones with the tornadoish trianglish red emblem in the middle. they have pretty clear sound too.

I had a RF 800a2 pushing two 12'' JL W3s and I loved them~! I suppose for your setup, instead of going with two 10'' subwoofers, just go with one W3 12''.

Thanks for the input guys. Sounds like people seem to like JL Audio. Before this people had recommended the 10w3s to me. Also Alpine Type R's and Infinity Perfects. I'd really like to stay with 10s as I already have an enclosure with the amps mounted(came with the car), although it sounds as if I may want to get a bigger amp for the subs.

for the buck you can't beat Image Dynamics. you can find some on ebay for like a hundred bucks. and not only is the bass deep that sub is also known to be clear.

Elemental designs Is my choice. They are not very well known but are a great company with great products and a great 3 year warranty, um yeah I like my e10kd2 as well.

Not quite as nice as my old BA pro 12.5's I had when I first got the 240 4 yrs ago. Then again its a single 10 in a box built like a tank and could double as a jack stand, one third of the cost of each 12.5, and on a third of the 900 wts I was feeding the 2 12.5's..

screw w0s get w3s. I had 2 w3s off a 400 RF and it sounded nice. Get 10w3v2s tho. Type Rs are awesome subs, if you want a sub that sounds really nice but not incredible loud get the new type are in the alpine box. The new alpine box has 2 ports going to 1 slotted port. Its sounds great i heard it yesturday. Your 400 would be a good for a 12 type R. IF you want 10s tho RF HE2s are also a good choice. Sound about like a 10w3. DOnt get w0s, w3s are alot better for the money. BUt all this depends on the ohms your amp can run. THere are alot of different rf amps. Sum up: 2 jl10w3v2s or 2 RF 10" he2s in a sealed box. OR 1 12"type R. Have heard them all off a 400 RF and all sound good, jl and Rf loud but alpine cleaner and more responsive. I now have a 800 watt concept amp and a concept sub, not bad sub at all. check into them good for the money

I have a elemental k series, the guy that makes them lives here and town and has gotten him self laughed out of the local audio places. he doesnt even have terminals on all his subs. I had to rebadge mine mtx to get rid of it. It sucked. 400 is ok for 2 10s.

ED is crap. I would never buy that sub. I heard gibbo80's sub and it sounded like it was in a sloppy ported box and it was actually in a sealed box.

Yes guys, but did you see his price problem, he said only 125 a sub, and there is no way you could get a W3 for that price brand new thats not stolen...............thats why I recomended the W0's....

Thats just a rough price range. I have more, I just don't to spend a LOT more than that. How much do the w3s run? I was reading good reviews on Image Dynamics IDQ series. Also people says JLs are overpriced. I may just hold off till I get a 240 and just do a whole new system...go with some 12s, a new head unit, find some nice 6.5 components, a more powerful amp for the subs(and keep the 400w for the 6.5s). Course then I'm lookin at a lotta cash. Depends how much I can get for my MX6 I guess...

I would also reccomend a 12.5 BA-pro, but he seems to be leaning for 2 10's...

Sorry to hear about your ED 10k but I have a cpl of questions.

What revision of E10k did you have?Box sizeBox constructionwattage

I have a e10k (3rd version IIRC, domed cone and dustcap), seeing about 350 wts rms. Its sounds nice and tight in a .57 before driver displacement sealed box with about 8 - 10 oz of fill to accentuate the low a very slight bit.

My box on the other hand is constructed out of 3/4" 13 ply baltic birtch, screwed and glued with polyurethane constrution adhesive. Then I proceeded to wrap the box in fabmat (woven roven - 24oz roven fibeglass cloth stiched to a heavy mat), and used over 40oz of resin total in it. The glass work weighed as much as the wood did.. Then I coated the inside with resin and a couple layers of undercoating spray.

Um yeah overkill but when you knock on the side it sounds like metal, without the audiable down falls of using metal for cunstruction :)

As far as terminals go, I havent seen or heard that they didnt come with them??? Care to explaine?

I would never recommend anything that has to do with Elemental Designs. I've never heard a more sloppy sub than the K series. I highly recommend two 10w3's. I purchased two 10w3's in box for 120. They hit hard and sound crisp

And that opinion really doesnt help much does it? Just because you heard one sloppy sub in a "who knows" install doesnt mean they are all bad.

I could make a kenwood sound good in the right install, and a DD, ID, JL whatever - sound like **** in another. Its 80% in the install itself.

Im still waiting to have him answer my questions, as I am curious more then anything. Not bashing, just curious...

Sorry I got OT.

I think I am set on getting Image Dynamics. I may go for one 12", but the IDMAX is like $400, plus I'd have to get a new enclosure for it. Has anyone heard the difference between the IDQ and IDMAX series? I'm told the IDQs are more for SQ, but I thought SPL subs would be cheaper. Then I'm lookin at like a JBL 1200.1 mono amp.

I built the box out of 3/4 mdf. THis is what i have always heard to use and is the best i have found. I dont like using nails i used a liquid nails type glue stuff that was recommended by the audio shop in town. Nail and such weaken the box. I cover this with silicone then. I built a ported box with about 1.2 cubic feet. The dimensions were given to me by the maker of the sub. I ran it at 300wats rms and it wasnt loud or good sounding. WE then put it in a .7 cubic sealed box thinking the port was making it sloppy. THis didnt help. I have built many boxes and was taught by a pro. They are very good sealed and always sound good with my other subs. I just think if the sub doesnt even have terminals then its not worth buying.

Hmmm that is odd... But you siad it didnt have terminals??? All the subs have terminals now and have for a while... Are you sure you didnt get a first production run, or I mean a first gen sub?

The box construction sounds about right, but the nails or screws are their to tightly secure the joints untill the glue has dried. Also for future reference one of the best adhesives for MDF is wood glue believe it or not... It soaks into the fiber, causing them to expand making a tighter stronger bond... Although LN is a good choice as well.

If you want to try a nasty adhesive pick up a tube of polyurethane construction adhesive (not the glue)... I went to break a seam on the box I built when I somehow made it 5/8" to tall, and ended up taking 4 plys of the baltic birch off of the other side of the seam.... Its my new fav...

Mine was one of the first ones, he lives here in town. THey might be better now but i had so much trouble with them and They are not any cheaper than the other subs i get. I like the fact that these other subs have been around for along time and have names made. Ben couldnt even get his subs in our audio shop. They laughed him out
