hey guys, i'm new to the forum i bought a 99 qx4 60k miles. I wanted to put the subs from my old car into it and decided to go to circuit city to do it cuz i was feeling lazy. After waiting around for 4 hours they told me that the firewall is two sheets of metal filled with sand and that they would need an entire day at least to build a special bracket so all the sand doesnt come out. My question is, is there an easier way to do this? I don't want circuit city to mess with my car like that mainly because i don't trust them. Can I just run the power wire from the battery through the front quarter panel and into the back and skip the firewall completely?

SAND? wtf........i highly doubt it. i got a 99.5 qx4 and my install through the firewall was tight but capable. didnt even need to drill a hole. Heres a pic i took, There was a small rubber gasket that had to be removed, and i bent the metal a little outward to fit my 4 gauge wire, but it worked and hasnt given me any troubles.

keep up posted, dont throw your money away at CC, this sounds like nonsense

I also put my 0 gauge wire through in the same area it looks like qxx4 did. There wasnt a hole already there though, it was blocked by a piece of the pedal assembly I think.

Theres defientely places to go, without paying big bucks or drilling holes or going thru doors though. Look hard on the drivers side

i drilled a hole in my firewall (also 99 QX4) to run a 4 gauge cable through, and there was definitely no sand in there. They are on drugs!!

that spot on the driver side firewall definitely looks like a viable place to run the power wire. another question i have is, since there is already a factory installed amplifier in the car (i think in the trunk on one of the side panels) can i splice the rca wires and remote wire and run them to a second amp instead of running another set back?

Maybe now we know why Circuit City went out of business. It seems like they have no idea what they are doing.

Honestly, I don't think I have ever seen a car with sand anywhere in it from the factory.

The only sand I have ever seen was after driving on the beach...

Maybe not sand, but plenty of smack to keep your street hookers happy, right Adam? lol
