Im in the beginning stages of planning an audio system for my three week old a/c. Ive already removed the door panels to examine the stock speakers and the 6x9's in back, and am soon ordering 2ohm speakers to replace them. My question is, before I take out the dash to examine the stock stereo, does the non-bose system have pre amp outlets? or do I have to connect amps the hard way? And if anyone has any pics of dash or stereo removal they would be greatly appreciated.

Umm, no. neither the non bose not the bose has preamp outlets. (If by that you mean RCa preamp outlets) BUt you don't need them. you can just get a speaker level converter like the scosche SLC-4 or FAI-3... they have preamp outputs on them that you could use to connect to an amp.

For dash and stereo removal, go to the link that says "table of contents: ReadFIRST" and check out my Avic D3 install write up!

Yeah definitely no preouts on any of the altima stock stereos, you could get a simple high level converter (like what vballer22 mentioned) or you could step up and get something like the JL clean sweep, Alpine vehicle hub, or the Rockford 360. I plan on going with the Rockford 360 or the JL clean sweep in the next few weeks or so. Advantages of these is more fine tuning which equals cleaner sounding bass and/or possible 4 channel amp.

Those are great units you mentioned, and if you are staying with the stock headunit, they are good suggestions, as that's mainly what they were designed for.

If you ever switch and go with a good aftermarket headunit, like the pioneer units, they have many of theose crossover, alignment, and equalizer features built in, making the rockford 360 and the like pretty redundant.

However, as stated, they are good units, if you plan to take full advantage of them, they will make your sound system sound a hell of a lot better. But if you simply want to add factory preamps, then th 20 dollars for the converter beats the hell out of the $400 for those other units!

Thanks for the quick replies. It really helps. I am going to go with the speaker level converter, and since the stock system is 2ohm, do I have to have a 2ohm amp and sub as well?

The speaker level inputs are the best choice at the moment for the money, I have a pioneer deh3900mp headunit from my previous car (a honda element) but the stock headunit blends in so well with the interior that I really want to keep it.

By the way, if I hook up a sub through the rear speaker wires, will I have to control the amp with a remote? And will it rob the unamped speakers from any power or sound quality since, at least how I understand it, It will be acting like a seventh speaker?

I'm about to buy the Cleansweep CL441DSP rather than spend $700 for a Pioneer D3. My main purpose is to be able to produce much better bass through my aftermarket subwoofer. This Cleansweep unit should do the job, correct? How hard is it to install?

Also, do I need the Cleansweep SSI (Signal Summing)?
