Someone here has added a subwoofer to their stock Bose system. I'm interested in the details...

Thanks guys!

Hitman,

I have a powered bazooka...works well for me. Not real clean or esoteric, but gets the job done.

i had 3 12" subs and 1000w amp hooked up to my bose, but i took it out. i think it weighed over 100 lbs. sounded really good. anyone want to buy it? anyway, it was basically wired to the rear speakers, i haven't taken the wire out yet. there was a box thing put behind the bose head unit so the subs would go off when the system went off.

That'd be nice, Sultan, but probably out of my price range (especially this close to Christmas). Let me know...

Jed, how is that 'zook hooked up, given the exclusivity of the Bose system?

Huh?

I will say I'm pleased with my Bose system considering its age, but I think Bose has produced too many mediocre systems to have any sort of exclusivity attached to their brand.

I'll stick with the common recommendation of either keeping the Bose system as designed -OR- scrapping it altogether.

I meant the difficulty in adding to (or removing from) the stock setup. I'm relatively happy with the Bose (although the FM reception sucks), except it's not really loud enough even at full volume... And it needs more bottom end.

Scrapping it and replacing everything is out of the question (budget).

Hitman please don't buy a subwoofer. Nobody wants to hear Conway Twitty's "Hello Darlin" blasting from a Q. Don't do it Bro!!

How did you hook up an amp to the BOSE sound system? Does it have RCA out?? Im just wondering if I have to buy an aftermarket reciever.

Circuit City installed it. Looks like a fused power wire to the battery, a ground wire and a simple splice to the rear speaker channels to grab the input. The RCA input on the sub is not used (there is one). Must be a high pass filter in the subwoofer to filter highs. They initially screwed it to the floor, but I re-did that crappy idea and threaded the straps for the bazooka through the structural member just aft of the gas tank (cut slits through the trim panel in the trunk).

Works fine for me. Causes my Sony CD player to skip badly, though. My old trunk mounted Sony is just about dead anyhow.

No - They're line level inputs connected BEFORE the amp (which is individual to each speaker).

I been studyin'!:D

Car: should be obvious enough

what you are describing cannot be done on the J30, and i seriously question if it is done as you describe on any infiniti car with BOSE. you need an ohm converter in there somewhere as well.

Not true, my friend. AZQ45 (Jed) had a Bazooka in his Q - same setup.

Local high-end shop will seell me the adapter that comes off the line outs on the back of the deck - Can be used to run a powered sub for even cleaner sound. They have 2 customers with Infinity BassLink Subs with the the same setup.
