Subwoofer enclosure and tuning frequency

Okay, so I'm looking to get an MTX 9500 12" DVC subwoofer. I don't really want to spend a lot on an enclosure since the sub is so much. According to MTX.com, a T9512-44 sub has a vented enclosure net volume of 1.75ft^3. And a tuning frequency of 35Hz. The only box I can find that looks decent on eBay has 2.0ft^3 total volume and the port is tuned at 32Hz. Now, my question is since these aren't exactly right, will this make a noticeable difference in SQL? Or is it a small enough difference to not be a big deal? I've had a lot of systems in the past, but this time I'm going for the ability to go LOUD but still achieve good sound quality. As stated, I've had a lot of systems in the past and so far MTX has been by far the best I've run across. You audio guys have any clue about this?

There are a bunch of different boxes that are by the same company as above and they state that they are built to "whichever brand sub" specs, but they are all the same thing. Please help!

A 4x8 sheet of 3/4" MDF, which is what that's made of, costs about $25 here. You'd need about half a sheet. If you have a friend with some tools, build yourself a box, or see if some place local can do it for you.

As for if that box is too big, no and that slightly lower tuning freq will add a little safety due to the driver not unloading below tuning freq as soon. IMO, any sub used for music shouldn't be tuned higher than 30hz. 25hz being a better idea. For HT use, around 15hz is good

make your own box. it's cheap adn easy and takes about an hour. even if you say you have no experience it isn't hard and it you mess up a cut you'll have more wood left over. before you buy any prefab just have your local audio shop make a box for you.

Personally i'm not a fan of that woofer but if you like it go for it. i'v only heard one and didn't like it. and if you're paying retail there are ALOT of better subs to buy...imo...an Fi Q for instance, more musical.

as for box tuning i agree 30hz should be good. the problem you run into with a ported box is if you play below the freq you're going to destroy the woofer.

oh and get a 15'' and not a 12''. you'll get MUCH better output with whatever driver you decide upon.
