OK I have been pondering upgrading the stereo and am wondering if anyone has replaced the sub woofer?

The one stereo shop said not much point as it is located on top of the spare.

He even suggested upgrading the premium package might not be worth it.

So I know i have another thread on the steering wheel controls which is helpful.

Has anyone upgraded just the deck and found a dramatic improvement?

Also any nice options in way of the Sub woofer?

I plan on having the shop do the install also

A few have done stereo upgrades here. Everything from head unit only to complete systems. It seems the upgrades are worth it as many like the improved sound. Do a search and you can find the information. I believe there are a couple of posts of HU only upgrades that members are really happy with.

Upgrading a BOSE system is tricky because of the external amps. The amps take balanced inputs (do a google search for the differences between balanced and unbalanced audio inputs). To upgrade just the HU, you need to use a line output converter like the Peripheral Electronics SVEN4. All Rogue headunits are the typical 4 channel type, including the BOSE system. Any additional channels (sub & centre speaker on the BOSE system) are done at the amp, not the head unit. This makes upgrades a bit easier.

Sub upgrades will require an amp as the BOSE sub has an internal one. There is another member here who did a sub upgrade... you will have to search to find the thread.

I have searched them all. Only one post mentioned a sub woofer upgrade but did not say if it was a box style or adapted the 6-1/2" one over the spare. All the other retros were Navigation sustems and never mentioned how much better sound quality was and if they had upgraded the sub.

I upgraded the head unit and added 2 12' subwoofers. I left the bose system in tack and added the Pac-2 between the aftermarket head unit and the bose harness. It's a easy install upgrade with out getting too technical or messing with the bose system. The bose system will handle your highs fine and using the HPA filter the bose sub is of no consequence.

I just unloaded my Rogue and will be glad to sell you my Pac-2 and Swix PS (only for Pioneer and Sony units) for next to nothing if your interested. The nice thing about doing it this way is when you decide to sell your Rogue you can swap out to the original equipment quickly. It only took me about 15 minutes to switch back to the original Bose radio.

Anyhow, feel free to email me at [email protected] if your interested. Luck to you man.

i'm currently getting all my parts together. I'll be keeping the factory headunit and utilizing an Audiocontrol Three.1. I'll be redoing the entire hatch area.

Yeah it seems like everyone has added woofers in cases only. No one is utilizing the current setup for the Sub. Even the guy at the stereo shop thought it was stupid setup

It's been awhile since I did speaker enclosure design...

The BOSE sub is designed to work within a fairly small volume inside the spare tire. It's a tradeoff since there is not much room to locate a sub without sacrificing cargo space. This ultimately limits the size of the speaker and the amount of bass. BOSE may even be using their Acoustimass waveguide system to try and extend the bass response in such a small enclosure. The reason it even works it because low frequency bass is omnidirectional... speaker location is not very critical.

Aftermarket subs lack the features BOSE included in their design. They would require a much larger enclosure... robably the entire trunk floor without the spare tire and cargo organizer. Even then, how do you floor mount a sub and have a usable trunk area? It would need some trick sub mounting setup.

I found this in a thread a month ago. Look for the post towards the end. It shows a good idea for an enclosure. Here DoubleDo is the creator
