I got 2 10 inch Audiobahn subs in a bandpass box with a nice audiobahn amp.... I havent installed them yet, but im having second thoughts on whether or not i should have them installed because of the weight of them. Recently, ive been weight concious when modding the 91 240sx and need some opinions on what I should do. Can really good Infinity speakers (4) 4x6's or MB Quarts 4x6's give me enough bass to make my car sound good? Its a hatchback btw... HELP HELP DRE

HMM ne1 willing to make an offer on the subs and amp?

I have 2 10's plus a box and amp in my trunk. I think it's pretty silly to give up amenities like good tunes to reduce the weight on your daily driver.

Look at it this way. Good tunes you'll enjoy every time you get in the car. The 60 pounds of weight you'd save by not having good tunes, you might appreciate once, when you barely beat someone by a tenth of a second?

Hmm good point, but still... Im really considering just some quality speakers instead of some subs... Right now i just have audiobahn 4x6's that arent in the car yet. How good do some nice 4x6's sound if you have them hooked up to an Alpine reciever with Bass Engine that puts out 60x4??? Is there enough bass or nah?

Subs, always subs.

Given the limited speaker openings in the 240, you'll never (ok, not in our wolrd/budget) achieve a good full sounding system with the speakers you can fit in the stock locations.

Alpine Type R 6x9s have great bass. I think you can get a set for about 200. I had the Type S's in my old coupe and those sounded very nice as well. (Had to cut the deck to make'em fit.)

Yeah I've got a '91 Hatch with 4 nice infinity 4x6's. Don't expect bass out of them. I put a 12 to 'balance' it out but there's still like a whole octave missing in the middle of the sound spectrum.

I see, I see... Well what about if I put 6.5 Components up front and say... 4x6 Plates in the back or something really nice??? Still wouldnt be decent bass or sound??? Reason im asking is because Chris from Underground Motorsports has those 6.5 component speaker adapters for sale for 40 bux shipped.

Build your own plates with some plexi glass or something like that. Do the install yourself so you save money there and you know where everything goes. *IF* you were to put good 6 1/2 up front and good 5 1/4 in back with a good amp it'll sound great. That type of setup, providing you do the install and all that, could run you (also providing you dont buy retail) maybe $1000 (wires, amp, speakers all around). If you get the right speakers and amp(s) it could sound phonomenal. I'm not saying subs wouldn't make it sound better but if you really don't want em back there for whatever reasons, then don't put em in there and spend your money on getting really great mids and highs... of course you won't have the same bass response but hey it'll still sound great. I have boston pro's... they do great without subs, but i'm not gonna lie... my boston pro subs make it sound even better. I had them without subs initially but i just couldn't resist.

wire and mount your subs so that you can easily remove your whole setup when you feel the need to go 1/10 of a second faster. than you can have the best of both worlds.

itsn't there a thread about the quick disconects lol. i swore i just replied to it:) Don't expect hardly any bass with 4x6's. you'd still need a pretty high quality 6.5 setup to get decent bass but you'll still be lacking in the lower frequencies. what music do you listen to. You could either keep your subs and amp or if you were really serious about trying to lose afew pounds sell them and buy a smaller amp and say a single 8 or 10.

Well i do listen to rap alot, and some sublime,311,marley... everything. I already have all my stuff but hasnt been installed yet. This is what i got: Audiobahn ABP10 Dual Bandpass 10s, Audiobahn A2600E amp, and 2 4x6 plates, and 2 4x6 regular speakers both made by Audiobahn... Do you think that would be an alright system???????

Yeah it should sound just fine, the 4x6's will sound pretty good don't expect much under 80hz or so from them but thats why you have the subs:) 2 10's in a bandpass with a 600watt amp will be plenty for you for now until you start losing yoru hearing and you start craving more bass.... oh a fun but expensive addiction lol.

when i had 2 12's and my battery in my trunk the 240 would get crazy sideways around corners. it would definetly oversteer more than understeer. it was a good time though

wow, i wish i got in on this discussion earlier... 4x6's suck sweaty chode. you're not gonna have any bass in your car with those speakers unless you can fart at will and fill the bass lines with the sounds coming from your ***. hehe sorry i once had 4x6's in my 240, i just really don't like them. adapter plates is the way to go, a solid set of 6.5's up front should give you some decent midbass but you'll still want something for bass fill...

if you're concerned about weight, a bandpass box is prolly not the way to go :P but honestly, the 240 apparently suffers from some understeer so a little more weight in the back can only help to level out the weight distrobution and give you a little more traction on the rear tires. just thoughts...

Yea I got 2 kicker comp 12's kicker ZR240 amp kicker kx100.2 amp and the 2 kicker 6x9's k693 and 4 polk 4x6's in the factory places of the 240. Also pioneer headunit(200watt). Built the box myself.Built it to specs and the 300watts that go to my subs makes my car shake. My car is louder than people with 1000watts going to their subs. When I get back home I got to start dynamatting because everything is coming loose. The weight does make a difference in speed. But the sound is well worth it. I can go bu an intake and get that loss back and probably then some.It makes it easier to slide with them in the back had a problem of it moving back and forth but just put in 2 screws and the problem was solved. Only problem is my system suck too much power. ALMOST has made me stall a couple time when i have it cranked and it hits when i start letting out on the clutch. My rpms have dropped down to about 150 before when i had it on bass test. So got to fix that problem. got the perfect mix of sounds in my car a nice bas and p[lenty of tweets. Makes a decent back massager too.

wow great story... but does 40 pounds really make that much of a difference in speed? that's like saying my car will be noticeably slower if my 190 pound friend drives my car as opposed to me (150lbs) driving it....

40 lbs is about 5 gallons of gas. I Can't say a 1/2 tank makes that much difference to me??
