Subframe Bushings

"These bushings can be installed either on top of the sub-frame, or below, and alter rear suspension alignment for your desired driving styles. Unlike cumbersome main sub-frame bushings, which require the entire rear end to be removed from the vehicle, and the OEM rubber bushings burned/cut out (messy job) these engineering grade low compliance polyurethance rings allow simple, effortless installation which drastically reduce the dreaded rear axle hop commonly found on Japanese rear wheel drive vehicles. Want to go drifting for the evening ? Simply install these bushings in the correct locations, and your alignment is instantly changed for "dori dori". Pop them out afterwards, and your alignment is perfect again for daily street use. Going to the dragstrip this Friday night ? Same thing. Simply pop the bushings in the correct locations, and you remove rear negative camber for maximum tire contact patch, for maximum accelleration. Want overall better response and performance for street, auto-x and track use ? Keep the bushings installed fulltime and help reduce subframe squirm and bounce. "

Now is it really that EZ or they just make it sound to good to be true?

it is pretty easy, took me about an hour to install my Border ones, and there are 8 of them...

I installed all 4 of my spacers from Gregg Dupree in 30 min... i only did lowers though... yes it is that easy man... just make sure you have a deep socket 17mm and a breaker bar! retorque big nuts to 56(4) and the 2 sets of smallers in the front to 28 and call it a day!

um...why exactly are there subframe bushings? I know they do all of the above, but how does it alter rear end alignment and all that good stuff?

Pushes your subframe up to your frame so that when you punch it you dont just wheelhop! and it tightens the rearend so that steering is more precise and the backend way more predictable!

It can alter it by adjusting how your subfram sits. Suppose the stock subfram mounting points look like this from the side.

normally, the whiteline bushings go underneath the mounting points, like this

The o's are the whiteline bushings. It looks really bad, but the o's are whitelines bushings. Now, if you want to adjust the alignment for drift or drag, you do this.

<---- this being towards the front of the car. And remember, this is looking at the subframe from the side of the car.

Basically it's how you arrange the bushings and how it tilts your subframe forward's or backwards. Not sure which way is drift or drag. Hope that makes sense and my diagrams come out.

overall performance! the gregg dupree spacers dont come with the ones that allow you to install on top of the subframe...

240_keyy....where did you purchase your border subframe bushings???....i was thinking of the ones from SPL Parts.com

where they easy to install??...correct me if i'm wrong ... but don't you have to remove the subframe and all the suspension components to get the bushings on??...

are the Border bushings and the ones from SPLparts basically the same???

When installed like that, like what most everyone does, is what helps limit the subframe movement, and is the primary point for the bushings. Take a look at your subframe mounting points on your car, and you'll see how it works.

i was thinking of getting the whiteline bushings from pdm-racing.com but it would be like $100. thanx. but at specialtyz.com dont you have to buy 2 sets of the 4???? dont you need 8 or 6??

the border ones I got from CTC in Dallas, however, they are just like the SPL ones, but without the cutout in them...

How did you like the border ones, I am thinking of getting them also, CTC is the shop I go to and they said the polyurethane bushings are ok but a pain in the *** and cost about a grand in labor... the border ones are just as good and a lot less expensive to install. having them thrown in with a couple of other things, unless I do it myself.

Correct me if I am wrong but the Z32 subframe bushings and the S-13, S-14 subframe bushings are the same. I know that the conrol arms are different sizes and stuff but you can order the energy suspension 300zx bushings kit and use most all of the bushings on a 240sx. I have asked Don at PDM-Racing if this is true and he confirmed it. Anyone tried this yet. I own a 90 300zx and a 90 240sx and I know that tons off stuff are interchangeable. I mean most of the Z parts we put on are 240sx's are cheaper if you go and look at sites like http://www.twintubo.net. And the same is true for something like subframe bushings for the 240sx will work on the 300zx and are cheaper. I mean some of the whiteline that is offered for the 240sx are not offered for the 300zx. Kinda benefits boths worlds if they know where to look. Kinda like I can get brand new rebuilt 26mm or 30mm 300zx calipers for any of you guys for around $170 plus shipping. You think I am lying then paypal me the money and I will send you the calipers for that price. Or just go down to autozone or O'reilly's and ask for some rebuilt ones. Don't use the websites. Anyway just wanted to share my thoughts and info as to help benefit others.

good lookin' out on those calipers, I'm looking into getting those soon.
