My girlfriend is looking for another car after she got the 240sx. I suggested a WRX . What do you guys think? Any common problem with them that we should concentrate on? Any opinion is welcome

If you want to research owner experience go here:

If you want the WRX with some luxury get a Saab 9.2X, It is basically a dressed up WRX with all the capabilities of the WRX. Besides Saab dealers do a beter job at customer service in than Subaru dealers.

me thinks most will recommend the WRX.

good speed and probably pretty easy to flog...

I've never driven one (come on Bud, I'll treat it right, honest!) but I've ridden in one. Fun too, the little sucker just grabs, hunkers down and goes.

I've never had an opportunity to drive one, but I've also had a ride in one and it was great fun. A friend of mind has a modded WRX that pulls like crazy and is still comfortable and civil when cruising around town.

Myself, I'm looking at a 2.5RS, as I can't really afford the premium price the WRX commands. Oh, I also wouldn't pay extra for a Saabaru. I kind of like the Subaru's no-nonsense interior.

Hmmm. well, Cold Zero is a satisfied WRX owner, he could share his experiences. I've driven a couple. IMHO WRX's have their good and bad points, more good than bad.

good:AWDquick and agile (will embarrass a lot of more expensive cars. pretty cool)good car in snow, though GA doesn't get as much snow as up north. roomy for it's size. has a real trunkInexpensivereliable

not so goodkinda looks challenged....ok, it's uglyAWD drives exacts a penalty on gas mileage.I believe it runs on only premium gas.cheap looking interior materials. Since it's more complex, expect repairs to be more expensive on the rare times something does go sproing

Overall, WRX is a terrific car and packs a lotta punch for the money. Should certainly be on the short list of cars to look at.

What did you like/not like about it?

I rode in one at the auto cross events, they were really quick and with the AWD, when you lose traction jusr point the car where you want it to go, it will grab and go that way.

she's looking for a used WRX. Her spending budget is around 16k. So no NSX or S2000

As a former WRX owner, I can tell you they're great fun, but the trannies are very weak. I had mine go out with only 700 miles on the car for no apparent reason (failed in reverse, wtf...). 2004-onward interiors look pretty good, earlier ones not so much. They are fantastic in the rain though, so long as you lose the crappy stock Potenzas.

I know the 2002's (i think?) have clutch problems. My buddies does. Its a problem that Subaru will fix for no charge, but the clutch begins to shutter and slip I believe were the symptoms. '03 and up were free of that problem.

I have yet to have transmission problems (knock on wood!) and yes they do take premium gas. They are good cars and other than having a tight engine compartment are pretty easy to work on. Its a very simplistic setup. If she is looking for a used WRX, make sure you give it a good inspection. Alot of them have been modified and returned to stock. You dont want to inherit the abused dolled out by someone else. bud

Yeah, the weakpoint on the WRX is the transmission. The input shafts are too long on the 5spd. so they tend to break when driven hard.

My next new car WILL be a WRX. I studied that car for like 3 months straight. I even have all the mods I want to do to it, and all the mods are priced!

Like it has been said before, the only mechanical problem is the transmission. And from my understanding, its only the manual transmission. Not the 4EAT.
