I dunno about that. Duesy side pipes were functional. The Buick "ventiports" were strictly non-functional ornaments.I believe their original intent was to simulate general venting of hot air out of the engine compartment. What I find amusing was 3 ventiports on a Buick signified a cheaper model. The "4 holer" was the top model. Maserati used three.

Nala, this is normal. You can basically consider the STi a generic of the Maserait, similar to prescription medication. They get a couple of years of sole ownership of a design, but then the store brands can attain the proper specs to produce their own version.
