Well, after 10+ years of abuse, my JL 12w6 finally decided to retire. It still works at low volumes, but once the power starts getting turned up, it sounds like a$$. Oh well, it lasted quite a while...

Anyway, I am looking for recommendations. I'm looking for a sub that is not a price hog, and sounds as good as my JL did. This is what I have for the sub:

Max power to the sub will be 175WPC @4ohmEnclosure = 1.2cf sealed

The sub I'm looking for should be optimal in the above environment, have a greater sensitivity than 86.9 db SPL (what the JL spec'd at) and hopefully have greater XMAX to insure linearity. I prefer a SVC 4ohm. A DVC 2ohm would work in series, but I really don't need the power handling of a DVC with only 175WPC. Sub should hopefully fit in the hole that is occupied via the 12w6.

Anyone have any good recommendations? Thanks

I like W6, but too expensive. I went for 10" Infinity Perfects. Check those out, had them for about 4 years almost. Pounds pretty hard with 500W on them. The prices on them are fair and performance are very good. Well, that's my 2 cents.

Thanks....I was looking at the specs of the Infiniti INI 1230W. 92DB SPL, 20-250hz, 12.5mm XMAX (12w6 was only 11.1mm), 1.25cf sealed box requirements (which should work fine since I'm using polyfill. Price is $99/ea.

I will do some research and may take a gamble on that one unless anyone has had bad experiences with it...

$99 that's dirt cheap. Where are you looking at purchasing these? Might just be time for an upgrade to 12" for a better bass drop, Yeah!

I'm a fan of the McCauley subs . I had a 15" in my CRX in a huge box so their 12" might not work in your space, but their 10" goes down to 30hz

Yeah, that was one of my concerns as well. If I were going to compete I would upgrade to a high-end sub. Since this is for personal listening, and I'm not trying to drown out the neighbors, I figured the Infinity would probably work fine. It also has over +5db increased sensitivity as well over the 12w6 which should help along with an additional 1.4mm in Xmax.

I should know tomorrow since I went ahead and picked one up. Seems to be build pretty well from looking at it. Hell, for $99 it was worth it and I could always use it somewhere else if I don't like it.

What did you end up getting?

here are some very nice and cheap subwoofers. Most of them have a high sensitivity.
