I am trying to install my aftermarket MTX Subs and MTX amp onto my 1998 Q45 factory system. I used to have the subs/amp in my old civic with an aftermarket HU and everything was golden in terms of an easy install. However, i heard from a local car guy that installing the subs/amp onto the factory system that has a factory amp might be a problem, and might mess with the computer. My question is do I just do the normal sub/amp install like I did with my civic that had an aftermarket HU? Or, is there something else I must consider when installing due to the factory HU and factory amp? Thanks.

the only thing you will need is a line output converter. when your subs were installed they most likely used low level inputs (RCAs). your q45 factory deck will not have RCAs. the line output converter (LOC) will allow you to splice into your rear speaker wiring and turn the high level output (speaker wire) into a low level output (RCAs). i hope this made sense. if you need anything clarified, let me know.

Noe of the easiest things to do, is swing by a Circuit City or a real audio shop and aske what all it would take to add a sub and amp to your factory system. Chances are they'll all but put the part in your hand, then just go online and find it for half the price.

You could also search for a thread by Wes, he added a sub and amp to his 94 which has basically the same factory Bose system.

Yea thanks. So basically, there is no need to run the RCA's the front, you buy the converter and splice them into the 2 rear speakers? Seems easy enough i think Is there any specific way to splice them into the 2 rear speakers or from anywhere on the line?

correct, you wont need to run the RCAs up front, they will only be travelling a small distance from the LOC to the amp. there really is no specific way to do it, i usually just splice the positives and negatives from each channel together and hook those wires up to one speaker as it takes less time and less wire. and if you want a clean install, you probably wont want to splice the LOC in by the speakers, because you will see the box. trace the wires from the speaker until you find a spot you can stash the LOC in. it will look a lot nicer.
