I read something about the sub frame bushing that I think is the same thing I'm experiencing on my 1994 Q45. When ever I hit a pot hole or regular hole, the rear of my car sways. Is this the sub frame bushing problem? If so, where are they located? By the way, I'm in NY

In the subframe and they are not replaceable as Nissan does not sell them separately. One can usually tell if they fail by the leaking viscous silicone fluid.

Where could I purchase the sub-frame bushing where I don't have to cut them like I've read in other forums. I'm trying to resolve this swaying problem.

They're quite common on ebay. I recently bought a set but have yet to put them in.

You could always use hyperflex bushings from energy suspension. I believe the subframe, differential and tension rods all use the same bushings between the Q and Z32. I'm sure there are some more that are compatible but someone with more knowledge on the Q will know better than I.

Keep in mind that subframe spacers merely squash the stock bushings to get a pre-load on them. If they are leaking there is no fix other than replacement. Same with tension rods, once they leak they are done. The hyperflex is much stiffer and will make it feel more sports like. You will feel a bit more of the road though and your Q ride will lean more towards sports than touring.

Also to be considered is the use of high performance parts. You can use the tension rods from 300zx's that use giant spherical bearings to totally get rid of lower control arm movement. Also you can use the aluminum subframe spacers and diff bushings but that would be for a track car only. Use of those basically mount the diff directly to the car and you will feel and hear EVERYTHING in the rear end.

EDIT: I just found a Q front suspension pic and it appears that they have the same front suspension components. Therefore the entire 300ZX kit will most likely fit the Q as well. I just replaced all the bushings on my 90 and let me tell you, they were all bad. The rack bushings, a-arms, tension rods, etc, all of them were done. This is a must do for anybody that has an old Q or Z and it's only like $150 if you do it yourself.

Rear sway is usually from worn out aged 4+ year old rear shocks that no longer have much rebound stiffness................there is +-3" of swayable movement compared to the maybe 1" caused by blown rear subframe bushings. The shocks can fail LONG before they begin to leak unlike the rear subframe bushings.

Failure to replace shocks every 4 years or 60k is common because the wear is so slowly progressive the owner adapts.

I took my car to a tire wheel alignment place. Found out that it was the rear inner tire rods. I have the HICAS system. One problem solved!!!! On to the next........

The Q45, 240sx, and 300ZX all use the same subframe bushings. nissan does not sell the OEM rubber filled bushings. If you insist on those, then your only option is to buy an OEM new rear subframe...

Most go with the poly subframe bushings, you may lose some smoothness especially other parts of your drivetrain are not OEM good.

I would lean more toward the shocks being bad, because if your bushings were that bad you would have some NASTY clunking sounds.

you may lose some smoothness

IS A SERIOUS UNDERSTATEMENT..........the vibration and road noise will be terrible with solid bushings. Turns a pretty decent lux car into a boyracer kiddy car.

Tech just curious but how many Qs has T3 done this on? I know you mentioned theyve done it on a couple and each time they came back for a new subframe.

What would be interesting to see about the feasibility of some new bushings custom made.. Even solid rubber would be better than poly.
