This is coupe specific . . . but i could see it belonging in audio/video, sorry if i chose the wrong =/

ok so i have a avic f700bt in my coupe and am lookin to install an aftermarket amp/sub. The problem is i do not know where to begin here, I have done this kind of an install in my old car but this one scares me . . .

(I looked over the d3 install guide but it didnt look like it was going to help me much with the process)

1. (wiring)I pretty much dont know where to begin taking the dash apart, also, not too sure where to run the wire from my head unit to my amp, and the wire from the battery to the amp. Any kind of guide anyone knows of that might have pics of how to do this would be AWESOME!

2. (amp location) Where is a good place to place the amp? i was thinking behind the seat? screwed to the back of it.

3. (hardware?) I have an old sub/amp i am going to use for the time being, but i will be installing much better ones when funds are available. So my question is, what kind of wiring should I use? any recommendations on a kit or brand, i will probably be installing a jl w7 later, using the wiring i install now, so i need quality.

(and i realized as soon as i hit post that my title was awful . . . but now i cant change, sorry)

Probably should be in the audio/video forum, but no biggie.

Once you get rolling, you'll find that this car isn't any more difficult than most others. I've done installs on many different cars, and once you've done one, you can basically figure out most.

1 - Best bet is to locate the service manual. That has been more helpful to me with my install than anything else I've found/used (although there should be threads with pics of how to take the dash apart - I'm pretty sure Doc has a thread on here with this info if you search for it). The easiest way to run wires from the front to the trunk without gutting the entire car is along the floor near the door frames. It will require removing some interior panels, but it can be done rather quickly. In my "hello" thread I've got some pics of where I drilled through the firewall for my power cable. Others have used other locations, so there are definitely options here. Just make sure you run the power and signal cables on opposite sides of the car to reduce the chance of interference.

2 - I've mounted on the seats before. It's definitely not a bad place. Make sure you tap all the way into the seat so that the amp is secure.

3 - I would go large on the power cable. I've got 0/1 in my car, and I would highly recommend it. That way if you ever want to upgrade, you wont have to worry about re-running wires. Any decent set of patch cables will work, so that shouldn't be as big of a concern. It may cost more to get decent cables now, but if it saves you time in the future, it's well worth it (IMO).

Any more questions, just let us know and we'll help as best we can...
