An old All-track Celica but good luck finding one. And if you do find one, don't beat on it please. Sell it to me.

You can pick up a Passat wagon w/AWD (Snychro?) or an Audi wagon w/Quattro, but I wouldn't recommend either due to the expense of maintaining those cars and some questionable mechanical engineering. Neither do I feel their AWD is really all that great for the winter - I'll go into why some other time, needless to say I've had some poor experiences with Quattro in adverse weather.

A trashed DSM AWD will be a money pit, and again, their AWD really doesn't cut the mustard as far as snow/rough roads go. it's more performance-oriented than terrain-oriented.

Hate to sound like a broken record, but a Scooby is your best all-around choice for a reliable, economical, trustworthy winter vehicle. They are not very expensive, either. Even an old FWD GL-10 stomps easily through snow and slush like a mountain goat, and there are loads of them around for sub-$1000.

Brats rock, they are the shizzy, and I slap myself every day for selling mine. If you find one in decent shape, buy it first and ask questions later.

Guess I'll just have to find one of those ultra-rare Turbo Brats someday. EA81T!

Good luck finding an AWD DSM for less than a grand that will be running and reliable.

Meantime is correct. The AWD in DSMs is not the best for winter. Especially with the LSD rear. I can bring the rear end around without even trying. (as can be seen in my sig pic). However, if you can get one with the non-LSD rear you will be better off in the snow. (just not as good on dry pavement)

Non-LSD are mostly 90 and 91 ABS model talons and Eclipses. Some 92+ Lasers came without LSD, but its hard to find them since it was such a cheap factory option.

Don't ask me why the non-LSD cars handle better in the snow. I don't know, they just do.

best AWD snow vehicle = the Vista Colt . Mine is a 5sp with awd on the shifter, and it has enough room to bring a whole slew of people.

Um...you could say that.

You could also say that the Baja IS a Brat. Like, a new one. In fact, they were toying with calling it the "Brat II". Glad they didn't, though.

The Baja is an...aberration. I was excited, however, to see the one Baja commercial where they had an EXACT copy of my Brat in the background on the beach, right down to the tan paint, black jumpseats in the rear, t-tops and red targa stripe. I still have pics of it at home, I'll see if I can upload them later.

Ditto for the Tercel AWD wagon also. For sub-$1k car, parts'll be falling off, everything'll be rusted, but Tercels will never die!
