Hello all,

This is my first question on the boards and I hope it's a simple one. I have a 96 I30t and I'm having an intermittent issue. Occasionally, while idling (mostly while sitting at lights) the car will start to "stutter" and the revs would drop and instantly return to normal which makes the car "shudder." The shudder is pretty serious and the CEL never came on. This will happen probably 5 to 10 times back to back and most times afterwords it will stop. Sometimes it won't happen for days at a time and sometimes it'll happen multiple times in the same day. This never happens while the car is in motion but it does sometime happen in Park or Drive. Any ideas on what this might be? Whenever I ask a mechanic they just say they can't diagnose it unless it happens while they're there.

Welcome to NICO.

First thing is to clean or replace the idle air control valve. If you still have the problem, you'll probably need a mass air flow sensor.
