Rb20det So I got this Autometer tach for free. Did my searching and read that a 1w 10k resistor somewhere on the tach signal wire would do the trick. I spliced into pin 7 wire (tach speed signal) and still nothing. The tach gets power but it seems the resistor did squat for a signal. I was hoping to save myself from getting a $70+ tach converter.

Anyway around it?

Usually the autometer tachs are wired for an 8 cyl car, the directions should tell you to clip a certain wire for a certain amount of cylinders i.e. clip blue wire for 6 cyl or blue and white for 4cyl. You shouldnt need a resistor, just the tach signal wire and good ground. If this dosent help, just call autometer, they'll be glad to help.

just take it from your CAS, theres 4 wires, i wanna say theres one wiht a bit of green. It worked like a charm. I know its kinda of a hacked way but i had all my stuff hooked up the proper way and nothing worked for me, so I had to do it this way.

i had the same problem....here's what i did. i hooked up the tachs power, then i removed the gauge cluster from the dash but left it connected. then i started the car and just touched the tach signal wire to every wire at the pigtail joints and after trying about 11 wires, i finally found it and spliced it in, and it worked perfect. But then i got sick of looking at that big ole tach and sent my cluster to LS Auto, and for 115 bucks, i got my stock tach reading my I-6 signal perfectly.

Well that did something.... when I started it, the tach needle shot all the way to the max. rpm and did not move.... shift light stayed on !

This has all been a pain in the ***.... LSauto better be the end of all this.

Just plug and play right???

From the LS auto website:

LS Automotive 6 Cylinder Tachometer for S13Includes complete Tachometer assembly that is fully calibrated and accurate to read 6 cylinder RB input.Just install in your existing factory gauge cluster with no modificationsWorks with S13 with RB engine swapsSend in your DOHC core to be modified

Price $100.00 plus good core exchange

But I have 89 240sx chassis. So I would need to buy the DOHC core and pay $100 not including the shipping.......

How about I get a tach converter for that silly Autometer tach? Will that put an end to all this ??????

I JUST WANT A TACHOMETER SIGNAL !!!

Seriously, just bone up and spend the $80 on the tach signal modifier from dakota digital. I'm sure you searched before you posted this and saw my responses to other threads.

Again, it's so damn easy to install that you'll kick yourself for not doing it earlier. You don't even have to recalibrate it after you disconnect the battery. Set it once, mount it behind your dash and forget about it.
