Today on stupid question theatre.......Bizz. Take it away bizz.

Thanks Bob. Ok so how do you remove flywheel bolts without turning the motor over?

Ok, bizz that was a stupid question. Lets throw it out to the floor for answers/ridicule.

take a bell housing bolt and stick it in one of the top holes (one of the ones that it can actually thread into.) now have a buddy take a large flat head screw driver and stick the flat end inbetween 2 teeth on the flywheel and brace one side of the screwdriver against the bolt you just threaded in. ideally, when you go to loosen the flywheel bolt, the screwdriver will be on the correct side of the bolt and it will provide leverage which will be used to keep the motor from turning over. It's going to take a bit of effort on both your parts because those flywheel bolts are on there nice and tight. try not to let the screwdriver slip when you're putting all your force into turning the breaker bar on the flywheel bolts, cause that kinda sucks.

you could rape them off with a 1/2in gun...

i found when doing mine that there is a technique to doing it. you get the bolt your trying to take off on the intake side of the engine, 90 degrees to the centerline of the engine. then you put your socket wrench on it so it lies parallel to the ground, across the flywheel from left to right. then you just use the ol' "ease it backwards then absolutely yank on it" maneuver and they come right off. it works every time for me and ive done it twice now.

Put a breaker bar on the crank pulley and turn the flywheel until the bar contacts the ground and braces everything. I've done it twice now and its by far the easiest and safest way I've found. Unlike the first time when I split my chin open on my KA's intake manifold... anyway, you'll need a big socket for the crank pulley though, 27mm I believe?

Use an impact wrench, air or electric, doesn't matter. They'll come off like whoa baby!

They actually make a little tool for that exact purpose. Threads into one of the bolt holes for the bell housing and has a few teeth on it that match up to the flywheel and hold it.

But i agree, impact is the easiest way to zip them off.
