Is it true that all diesel engines came with turbo? Just something I heard from a friend...

No.

Most diesels are NOT turbocharged.

MB, VW, GM all made (and still make) diesels w/o turbos.

VW has a non-turbo diesel? I thought they only had the TDi?

Oh, and when I was little my parents had a Mercedes 300D, pretty sure no boost there. They bought it while my dad was in the Air Force (F-15) in Amersfoort, Netherlands, and brought it back here with them. I miss that car...

My dad has a 300D. Definatly no turbo. On a good day it might get up to 65 going downhill but it really doesn't like to go over 55. They are neat little cars but it's to bad his has clutch problems. We've put a new clutch, and clutch master cylinder in it, and even replaced the springs but it still doesn't work right. It's been sitting in the barn for a couple of years. Just 10 ft away from the John Deere 4440 turbo diesal tractor. That thing has some serious torque.

NTN - I meant VW's previous diesels. No boost.

City buses are likely non-turbo, large-displacement diesels.

my friend pete had a 1979 Olds 88 Royaaal diesel something or other, maybe i got it wrong cause the stoner cant remember the damn name of his OWN CAR!!! Oh well it was a torquey screaming monster and a pimp daddy ride. hah... i loved the sound of those valves. No real ponies though

edit: all the city buses here in D.C. are twin turbo diesels. Ive seen a few of 'em broke down on the side of the road with heat issues and peered inside to look at the powerplant. Just curious really. Its pretty common for this to happen with this sticky swamp heat we have here in summer.

All of the big three (Ford, Chevy, Dodge) full-size pickup companies offer turbo-deisels. They are much more efficient than SC's or bigger displacement. But there have been and continue to be MANY non-turbo deisels in production.

LOL I knew someone was gonna say that. I know that they use air brakes but its just this whistling sound that they make when they start moving and it doesnt stop until they start slowing down.

most of the newer big rigs use them.

you should get one of their turbos and use it for a project bike:D

If you want to steal a bus, ask Lenny Clark; if you don't know why I say this, watch the Comedy Central Roast of Denis Leary . . . it involves Lenny Clark running for mayor, with "F!@# the Kennedy's, Vote for Lenny" bumper sticks, and stealing a city bus . . . Good stuff. :-)
