stupid question

Hello all,im a noob so this will be the stupidest question everis there a way to stop engine knocking?>what needs to be replacedwhat might cause this and what might be done to prevent it

Several possible causes:- running a fuel that's too low in octane- ignition timing advanced too much- motor possibly overheating- fuel mixture excessively lean, possibly due to a major vacuum leak- excessive carbon deposits in combustion chamber
