Alrightly I'm in the market for a 240sx and I'm planning on getting an s13 hatchback, with an s15 motor/transmission. I know you must have heard this question a million times, or think it's common sense, but here it goes, when I go to a sight and I see an advertisement for an intercooler kit, do I get the s13, in an effort to fit the chassis, or do I get the s15 version in an effort to meet the cooling requirements for the larger s15 turbo? Will I encounter any problems if I opt for an s15 front end conversion if I do get the s13 intercooler kit. I'm kinda new to the sr20 setup so I need :help with this fix im in

Thanx

hahahah

you should NOT buy that car or motor.

what you SHOULD do, is go to http://www.howstuffworks.com/turbo.htm

and maybe find a clue there.

When you feel like you have gotten some idea of what the hell you are talking about, THEN you should use the "SEARCH" feature on this forum, and find out that this question has been asked and answered about four thousand times.

hahaha.

The S15 Motor is a bad choice for the S13 Chassis. Especially for the S13 Chassis, the S13 is a better choice, even moreso if you intend on upgrading the motor, like most people. The S15 motor requires too much extra stuff to make it worth putting into an S13.

In regards to your question, theres no difference between S13 and S15 intercooler kits so long as you buy the same type of intercooler, except for the piping. You would buy a S15 kit, not because it cools better, but because the piping will line up with the motor. Its easier to adjust the chassis than to adjust the motor. : )

Thanx guys didn't get flamed too bad :D and yeah I'm pretty poor with words I know that the intercooler doesn't cool the turbo but it has something to do with cooling the compressed air, the more compression the hotter the air and the more efficient or bigger intercooler you need right, or somehting like that.

Alright s13 motor it is, and why did someone say not to go for the s13 hatchback, I like hatchbacks but I heard that coupes are more rigid and weigh a tad bit less? I'm looking for something to go sideways in, I'm not planing on dragging or stuff like that, mabe an autocross here and there, but I just want to drift with my friends corrola, so you guys are god, what should I be looking for?

Thanx guys

Its personal preference really, coupes argue theirs are better, hatchbacks argue theirs, really its whatever YOU want.

Sweet s13 hatchback with a redtop under the hood, anyway for me to sport the s15 6spd transmission or is that another one of those ideas thats much better in my imagination than in practice:confused:

Aside from the transmission how about getting this power to the ground, lsd? clutch flywheel tires? Rim size what should I be looking at? coilovers, brakes? All for drifting of course, just want this stuff in place before I start jacking up the horses

Gonna be sellin the ol' vdub soon so I need an idea of what I'm getting myself into before I leap, yeah I'm bad with words :pface

oh and srpower I didn't get much out of that turbo article but I did learn how that new benz turbo works thx!:D

There isn't much of a way to get a 6 speed transmission unless you can find someone with a S15 motor who wants to swap it for a S14 transmission. Most don't like the 6 speed, the gearing isn't that great and its considered "weaker" because of having 6 gears in the space of 5. There are lots and lots of options for everything, I'd suggest just searching and reading. Enjoy your day.

You can get a 6 Speed transmission for the S13 if you'd like... But not from an S15, so no worries about the weaker gearing.

Product Number and Link: 1603-RN012

I'd suggest you pick up a couple of them ;)

Whoa:eek:! almost 10k for a transmission!! Man I wish I could afford one let alone two!! what about that 6spd upgrade kit, is that kit used to upgrade an existing 6spd somehow or to upgrade a 5spd to a 6spd. Oh and for you guys who deal with trannys on a regualr basis how much would this sort of upgrade cost?

Thanx again

Can you read Japenese? If so I'd check the Japan yahoo auctions. Seems to me if tuners in Japan are ditching the "weak" 6-speed for the s14 5 speed, some would put the 6 speed up for auction.

If you know someone in Japan that knows tuners maybe he could arrange a trade for you.

Just thought I'd float that Idea. ;)

Unfortunately 99.9999999% of the auctions won't deal with Americans or ship outside of Japan. : (

Really? I kinda thought it'd be cool to have a 6 speed to go with my "silvia14.5" concept.

Oh well, maybe I (and he) can make friends with the foriegn exchange students at my (his) college. :D

I wish, I'd stock up on option videos and not leave my room for days :rotflmao! in addition to being able to hook up people with stuff from the promised land of course. But I ditched the s15 6spd idea after reading how weak it is. It was just going to be for boasting rights anyway, and the lower ratio 2nd gear might help with the drifting, just a thought. Thanks for the advice though.

Where did you read that it was weak? No offense but it could probably still take a fair pounding and I doubt you'll be pushing out enough torque to bust it up.

Import Tuner. But that was the same one with the Blitz s15 pushing 425hp so in actuality it was more saying that it wasn't weak than saying it was.

Well I heard from people on this forum, and then I started snooping around with google and found more sights (mostly personal) that mention the weak 6spd transmission. But yeah I agree with you in that it's simply a case of being weaker than the older 5spd units. Hearing all this has made me nervous about the 6spd so I'll go with the 5 spd untill I get more info on the 6spd. Also there's more parts available for the 5spd so if something goes wrong I'll have an easier time getting a replacement.
