Please forgive my ignorance. I searched until I was blue so that I wouldn't look like an a$$ asking this question. Unfortunately I couldn't find what I'm looking for so please, somebody enlighten me.

SR20DET should be showing up in a while, but I don't have money for an exhaust system at the moment. Important notes:

The engine doesn't come with downpipeI have to have a cat-converter to pass emissions.

Does anyone see my dilema

If I purchase a 3" downpipe is there anyway that I can hook it up to my stock cat for a month until I can buy a high flow cat? Then I'll have to connect a 3" cat to a 2.5" cat-back until I can afford the cat-back exhaust. Why can't I win the lottery? Anyway, I guess what I'm looking for is a 3" to 2.5" connector/adaptor. Do they make these? I couldn't find any on the internet (it's hard searching for 3" when search engines look at " as a quote rather than an inch).

Also, by running the stock exhaust I know the turbo won't spool up as fast, but will I have to worry about anything else like possibly damaging the turbo?

Thanks for the help and feel free to give me a kick in the a$$ on your way by. Might help me think more clearly next time.

Thats what muffler shops are for..they have coupler pipe that will connect what you need.

So nothing I can do on my own? I hate paying others to do something just because I don't know how. I'd rather take the time to learn how to do it myself. That way I save some money and my brain gets bigger in the process.

You can go take a welding course at your local BOCES program if you have one...or get an apprentanceship (*SP), but i wouldnt suggest trying to weld without knowledge and experience, so custom exhaust work, performed by a beginer is not a good idea. Take it to a professional...For #1 know the difference between the different welding processes, and that the machinery is well over 500-1000$, and make sure you get all the necessary safety equipment...

So in other words..nothing a normal/intelligent person would do on their own...and you would not save money in any way shape or form.

You know ih8urdsm, you come off a little rough. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate your answer. In a round about way I was able to determine a couple things.

1. There is no connector that you can buy that will connect a 3" to a 2.5" using the standard bolt up/gasket procedure.

2. With this being the case I would have to have welding equipment and I would have to know how to use it.

3. Welding isn't something to take lightly.

4. Welding equipment runs between $500-$1000. I hadn't looked into that yet, but it is very nice to know.

That pretty much sums up what you were trying to say right?

Well, in response I will tell you that I will take it to a muffler shop to have the work done. Good advice, thank you. However, I feel like I need to explain something so that you understand were I'm coming from.

I enjoy working on my car, and welding is one of the things I plan on picking up in the near future. You see, this is my hobby. If it were up to me nobody else would ever touch my car. I'll be doing the SR swap, I've already started the body work (which I'll have to learn to weld in order to complete), and all in all I love every minute of it. So please, don't hate a guy for trying to enjoy himself and learn at the same time. I mean, it could be worse right, I could drive a DSM...

FYI...we don't have BOCES down here, but it is Nascar country so I'm sure I could find some hick to help out. However, I am from Buffalo, NY, and I am very familiar with BOCES. My cousin even teaches at the one in Medina, NY.

Just sell your stock exhaust and pick up a used 3inch exhaust on ebay or something....it will be worth it.

ummm....any aftermarket downpipe should bolt right on to the stock cat, mine does, althought cat is strangely high flow and devoid of catalyst

No, I have a stock sr20det downpipe. It will fit from stock O2 housing to the Stock Cat.

Midas on HWY 29 in Concord, right near Wal-Mart, will be able to help you out. They do custom exhausts and what not, and they have decent prices. This will be a good option if you don't want to take up the task of welding yet. Good luck with the swap!

Thanks 4door. I know the shop you're talking about. So what brings a Honda driver to the 240sx forum? Be careful, they can be rough to honda owners around here. Thanks again for the info!

I don't think you'll even be able to pass emmissions once you get the motor in, so do yourself a favor and get it inspected before hand or find yourself someone who will pass you for money

dunno bout the ka24e but the DE does. if the e has the same piece . then it's a little smaller maybe 5mm. and doesn't have a cat. this was a comparison of 96 SE(USDM) and S15 SR20DET. and it sure looks like it'll bolt straight up.

No. It means your SR downpipe will bolt onto your KA cat I think. My Blitz exhaust bolted right up to it, and it is definitely not designed for the KA. Then again. this is the less relevant side of the cat... You can also buy a decent high flow cat for not too much money that will fit, or it will be easy and cheap to have it modified to fit.

All the flanges are the same size a 3" DP or the stock SR DP will bolt up to the stock cat back. The flange is the same, the pipe has nothing to do with flange size. All you need to get is a DP. Stock or aftermarket don't matter. They are all the same flange.
