OK After reading many posts on AIV I am going to remove mine on my 90 240sx. I just installed a hotshot header and had a muffler shop weld the copper tube to the header because the fitting on the tube was larger then the threads on the header and they said that is all they could do is weld it in the header. I got the Header off Ebay and it came with a plug on the port. After driving today I started hearing an exhaust leak and found out that the stearing knuckle made a hole in the copper pipe going to the header. I guess they had it in a different position because it was welded in and not screwed in. I felt a strange grip on my wheel everytime I would take off and turn the wheel. Now I just want to remove the AIV and all the air hoses. Can the pipe be unwelded from the header and then install the plug back into the header? I guess my question is when something is welded and then unwelded does it mess up the threads in the port of the header. If it did screw up that port can they weld the header closed instead of putting a plug in the header. This is costing more money that I don't have. The hotshot header was longer then my 1st header so they cad to cut off some exhaust and put another collector to bolt the header up.They charged $125 for the welds and the exhaust. That seems high to me. Anyway, I hope they can undo what they did with the weld and not charge me anything because it is not correct if my stearing is rubbing on the tube causing it to crack. Thanks Peabody

125 is probably about right if they provided the collector and did the work. I'm having a custom exhaust put together, turbo back...and its going to cost 510 in labor with me providing all my own parts. Also, they can always cut the pipe off, grind everythign flat and weld a patch over it, good as new :)

does indeed sound like a job for a die grinder.
