Lets see, in July-ish last year my car would overheat driving. Replaced the thermostat from autozone, good for a week straight but then overheating usually when sitting still but also in slow moving traffic, same problem. Went to Nissan to buy a freakin $40 thermostat and has worked ever since earlier this week, getting the same problem. I was in a Wendys drive thru for mabye 5-6 minutes when idle bumped up to 1200 and the temp needle was close to the hatch to H. Got my food and parked to cool down for a few minutes. Earlier today while crawling in traffic for atleast 10 mins, I had to shut my car off and resart whenever people started moving.

WTF!. There is plenty of coolant, no leaks. Coolant has been flushed. NO airbubbles. Both electric and WP fans worked last time I checked but I will check again because I havent since it started OHing. Blasting heat does nothing. How does it work for almost 9 months and this again? Its only when Im stopped or moving slow. What could this be another thermo? Really dont wanna do that because the bottom bolt hole has about 0 thread left. Thanks again previous fatass owner! Im suprised the head gasket is still alive.

Perhaps a leak?

Edit: Haha I didn't see the part where you said you had no leaks.

When your car is hot, try to see if your lower hose is cold, if it is, the thermo is not opening.

Dont know if I can suspect the WP. If Im driving its always good, only when stopped or slowly moving like less than 10mph. Its like the fan is not coming on or my fan clutch is bad. But like I said I have to check it, probly tomorrow. The thing that worries me is that it takes atleast 5 mins for it to OH and it comes fast and all of the sudden when it does.

If you have a consult2 plug and software it would be the best thing to help with these problems i have one and i love it. Some consult software will actually trigger the fan too see if it works and alot of other helpful things. Maybe check your temp sensor?
Just write everything down in steps and check em off as you go over them...

I think I know what your talking about. Never heard of that one. Ive always seen the Motis, and the newer Verus and other Snap on Diag things. Dont really have access to one tho, atleast not close by. Dont think the temp sensor is shorting or anything. I hear coolant boiling if I shut it off if it gets real hot. And if I have the heat on it will blow real hot when the car is started again.

Could be thermostat, Water Pump, fans not spinning fast enough or at all, or sensor. When my thermostat goes out I am going straight to the dealer. I've heard a lot of problems with Auto Zone parts not working right. Including thermostats, starters, alternators on 240's.

I went through 3 starters on my ka24e when I first had my car. Didn't drive it much and replaced it once a year for 3 years until I got my first SR.

What is consult? is it like a DTC reader that allows you to turn stuff on and off?

I was thinking eh its just a thermostat, thats why I went to the closest car place around here that being Advanced Auto (I know I said Autozone but I meant Advanced, same crap tho). Ive had stupid people 'help' me too. I know how to turn a wrench pretty good and Ive had the totally wrong thing said to me before. The reason why I don't go to NAPA is because they are soooo expensive.

Yes, there is a clutch fan and an electric fan that I assume is the AC fan. Im not sure if the AC fan turns on if the car overheats, but just when AC pressure gets high.

Ive been doing this side job all day so I havent had time to check the clutch fan. I have another one here and I might just slap it on for the hell of it.

Yes consult is a DTC reader and can be used for a few other things also... :bigthumb:

-stop driving
-loan a tool cooling system pressure tester, test at 1.3bar for 30 minutes. If pressure does not hold there is a leak.
-If its passes replace the water pump and T-Stat again, and properly bleed it. If fail find the leak and fix, or check compression.

OTW,
Do they have those testers at autozone to rent? I'm having the same problem with two of my s13s and need to figure this ish out. Will it help with bubbles, or just tell us if we have a leak? Also, if there is a leak, what's the best way to find it? It seems like a pinhole leak because nothing obvious is leaking, no drips or anything.

I rented one for advanced auto. They are like $220 bucks but they are loan a tool. And they are cake to use, just don't over pressurize. But since the engine is not running, if there is a leak you can hear the air escaping. My friends girlfriends civic has issues and we found the leak in about 30 seconds. It was hardly a leak, just a few small wet bubbles.
