so on a long road trip, my turbo manifold and turbo decide to separate. one of the studs i the turbo manifold snapped. by the way its a megan racing mani. i dont blame the manifold, im sure its cause the screws all backed out. i used lokcing washers rather than the locking plates when i put it together.

soooo the question is, what did you guys do to keep your turbo flange bolts from backing out? did you reuse the locking plates?

I don't put any antiseizing agent on mine (which makes for some fun grunting when I do have to take the turbo off). You can also order new locktabs from Nissan if you need to. Yes they are the spawn of satan, but they are a necessary evil. I've had to replace two manifold to turbo gaskets now cause of my screwups while installing the locktabs.

lock washers and locking nuts made of nylon are completely useless for high temp applications.

You can try defomation locking nuts but they are very hard to find. You usually have to order online.

I used locking plates from the stock turbo and I seem to be fine so far...

Or you could just use High Temp Lock Tight. It will be a ***** when time comes to take it off but they make lock tight for temps up to 1800*F and it has held fine for me.

Example I forgot to put some on one of my bolts on my turbo and it was the only one to back off.

hmm lots of good ideas here, originally, i was going to use high temp thread locker, but i cant find it out of the 8 or so auto stores around here. they never have the high temp. oh welll, i think im just gonna use the stock locking plates and just smash them in really well to the nuts. i just hate removing the entire manifold and turbo assembly. yarg

my big adversion to high temp locktite is that two of the nuts are in a position that getting good torque on them can be tricky. add in the locktite and you have a very very hard nut to get off (insert juvenile joke here). Not using antiseize and using brand new locking tabs has done a good job for me so far (over a year and counting with no problems).

Back on the subject haha. The locktabs are essential for the turbo-manifold flange. Nylon lock nuts, threadlock, lock washers all do nothing with the high-temps of the turbo. The nylon melts away and becomes a hex nut, the threadlock melts, and the lock washers get flattened from the heat and become flat washers haha.

The only decent alternative i've found is Prevailing-torque locknuts. No need for locktabs with these. Good luck finding METRIC sizes locally though. The best bet is ordering online.

example from a quick google:http://www.bestnutsbolts.com/hexnut.html
