So.... those lugnuts that hold the turbo to the exhaust manifold.... *sigh* yeah they came loose and for the time being I can't do anything about it. :(

This weekend, I'm going to remove just about everything on that side of the engine bay, all the piping, manifold, turbo and downpipe. Then I am going to tighten those lugnuts and put it all back together.

Maybe I should take the exhaust manifold to a machine shop and have them port and polish it? Would it be worth the $50?

Ugh, oh well, just wanted to vent and gripe, thanks for listening.

Oh and, by the by, yeah, this is causing the most INSANE boost lag EVAR and I'm losing a TON of boost pressure. sadness :(

Thats a really common part that comes loose. You really need to ensure that the locking washer plate is holding those nuts in there good.

this happened to my car like 3 times so finally i just put a few little spot welds on it that are small enough to take a grinder to to get them off to remove the turbo.

no because I could never compile the code. I still have it, but I know nobody that could compile it and I didn't have the means to do so on my own. Want to help me compile it =D

split lock washers and maybe some thread lock would be a good idea. I've already got those on the exhaust manifold to turbo (that 4 hole portion) and locks down pretty damn well. My buddy with a 3S-GTE and a greddy turbo upgrade said that those split lock washers came with his kit and hold the parts together very well. Might want to give those a shot.

meh, the Greddy Downpipe is on its way and everything else is holding snug and tight. I'll get those lock washers for the downpipe.

Hey which bolts are you talking about that are becoming loose? I have an exhaust leak and I am trying to pinpoint it. If it was just some loose bolts that would be quacktastic, which is a good thing.

The ones that hold the turbo to the exhaust manifold and the ones that hold the downpipe/elbow to the turbo. I'm thinking if they all vibrated off, I'd have to shell out money for a new turbo, as mine probably would be dangling by intercooler piping. Once I get that damned downpipe on, and put together some 3" it'll be all better. Right now I"m running stock everything, including the 2" exhaust... please don't laugh... i'm only 17 and jobless and living for my car.

yeah that 4 hole gasket that sits between the exhaust manifold and the turbo. My buddy had a leak on his sr at that very same point which took him a couple days to find. Those little metal clips apparently like to vibrate out causing the bolts to get loose. He put in a new gasket and put the split lock washers and bing no leak. Apparently pretty common for that spot to have an exhaust leak.

this just goes to further prove my theory that nissan people aren't engineering geniuses. They are just too damned lazy to come up with things, thus is why all the parts from the cars are interchangable. Why didn't these exhaust bolts get split-lock washers in the first place? *sigh* Bah. Oh well.

I think that is being a little harsh. They obviously can engineer engines well, I think they just get a little too focused on the engine itself and forget about its components.

I'm just playing with you guys. I know they make good engines. but I still wonder whether or not they are geniuses about the whole interchangable business or not. I'm still thinking they're lazy and just didn't want to redesign anything. :D

Yeah after trying to tighten those nuts on the manifold to turbo, I agree with you. I am going to have to take the whole system out to just tighten them down. If only I had another couple of inches around that area I could do it all in-car.

yeah, I had to remove the whole system... took a good 5 hours to do, but when you're "having sex" with your car, it just flys by.
