I figured it's late, there shouldn't be many people out on the road. I was wrong. I got pulled for not stopping completely at a stop sign, (I slowed down but didn't completely stop), I was speeding (about 10 miles over), my stereo was too loud,(speakers were blasting, I was happy), and when he pulled me over my lap belt wasn't fastened. I was really respectful and showed him my time slip from work and he let me go with a warning. Ever since then, I drive slower and try to be more careful, especially at night.
I personally I think that in a lot of cases getting a warning is a lot more effective than getting a ticket. I have gotten both, the ticket was first though. After that, I was extremely pissed off at the "law", mainly because the officer was a jerk to me, and I felt ripped off. I will truthfully say my street driving got about 3x worse for about 6 months. Finally, I realized that I was driving that way because I lost my respect for the police, and drove bad just to spite them. I would pass a cop and then punch the gas as soon as they were out of site. When I came to my senses, I knew that one bad experience was no reason to disrespect them all. A second encounter with a nice officer that ended with a warning, totally changed my perspective. And I have been much more reasonable since.
