No pun intended... I just recently switched to Shell Full synthetic motor oil and I am trying to make sure that they didnt overfill it... Everytime I take the dipstick out to check it... the entire dipstick is covered in oil... even after wiping it. This is whether it's cold or hot. Is there a trick to our dipstick?

Thanks,

David

do it and do it again untill you get a clean reading,,, I've tried up to 10 times before giving up myself... but I do not condone this behavior... lol

Good luck... I think it's best when the engine is really cool. Good luck

I filled up the other night and decided to check my oil. Pulled out the dipstick and then realized I couldn't see in the engine bay. The guy next to me asked if I couldn't find the hole as I aimlessly poked the dipstick around and I explained to him that it's way down in there and one of the worst locations in the market. So I had to back up so I could be under the lights. But yeah, I tried getting a reading once and I gave up because it was hot and I just decided to wait another time until I can get a reading when its cold.

Park your vehicle on level ground. Best time to check your oil is prior to starting your engine in the morning. Otherwise let the vehicle sit for 20 minutes or more so that all the oil from the engine including the dipstick tube drains back into the oil pan. Yes it a pain designed that but its still a great vehicle. BTW the L mark is two quarts low

A little bulb under the hood would have been helpful from Infiniti. Anyway, the car was designed in the day time. I doubt the engineers did any type of design and testing at night.

You know I think my old Lexus had one? I can't quite remember?Gee that could be my first mod for my G?A bright low wattage environmentally safe bulb wired in series thru a mecury switch to 12v battery and ground

Telcoman:

You are right. Even cars in the 70s had small bulbs under their hood. An inexpensive and small LED light would be adequate as it uses less current than a regular bulb. Why is the simplest stuff so hard for the auto manufacturers?

That was one of my first mods on my I30. I went to autozone or kragen and bought 3 LED that came with a switch, I drilled the holes for the led holders (just slightly larger than the LEDs) and ran wires through the hood skeleton. I was sooooo happy to find that the switch diameter was exactly the diameter of one of the holes in the hood.

It was cool except for my crappy wiring job. Then again, that was 4 years ago.
