ok heres the story... i just finished swapping out the engine from a 90 ka24e into an 89 roller. i tried to see if the starter still works, but the whole electrical isnt hooked up yet... everythig on the harness past the starter motor isnt hooked up, (the trans sensors and stuff) nor were the sparlk plugs or the center lead that goes to the distributor... the powersteering sensor connect broke during the swap, so thats not connected. theres one plug thats directly next to the maf plug on the harness that i cant for the life of me figure what it went to... the aiv **** and egr is now removed, i took the liberty of doing that thile the car was apart... might anyone have any ideas? i also tried getting it to crank usung jumper cables hooked to a battery in a running car... in all reality the guy i bought the roller from really screwed up alot of stuff in the car, and it seems that everything was done half assed... so im just hoping its not something due to the engine swap itself... im just wondering what had to be hooked up again for it to start... sorry for the long post, but i keep going over and over the whole swap in my head and it wont stop till i know the cars going to run...thanks-g

Make sure your connections to the fuse box are ok, and make sure you have that blue relay behind the passenger side headlight connected. Any clicks when you try to crank?

Do you mean you hooked jumper cables directly to the starter? If so, it pretty much has to be bad. If not, it wouldn't be a bad idea.

The harness connector right by the maf connector is iat, I think. Is this the engine harness from the 89 or 90? I seem to recall that some kae's had them and some did not. Perhaps this is the 90 harness and your 89 chassis doesn't have the iat?

ok... i finished hooking the rest of everything up. the sensore for the trans, and the sensor by the maf is for the air box, although i think the 90 didnt have one. or it was missing. so after i got everything hooked up and it still ddnt start. the jumper cables were hooked to the battery leads, not the starter itself. then last night as i was going through all the reasons a car wouldnt start, i was thinking of the parts from the 90, the electrical things on the engine ans such. i remembered that the 89 roller had a push start button in it when i got it. so i hooked it up, got a power source from my friends car, and it did work. well sort of. the starter motor did turn the engine , but the engine didnt start up. tomorrow im going to try switching the distributor from the other engine to see if thats the problem, maybe the crank angle sensors misaligned.-g

Sounds like a jury rig...

Did you connect all the Intake manifold sensors? There are a few of them that would affect your idle quality.
