MY alternator bold decided (see below) to come loose which I was thinking was the timing chain rubbing agains my valve cover from how it sounded. Well I cant get the thing to go back in I have tried looseing the belt bolts and moving the alternator nothing works. Does anyone know how to fix this problem.

My father decided to loosen it when he was helping me change the belts (big mistake) I didnt know about it so when I went to tighten the bolts back I didnt notice he loosened that one so now its my fault its not working and err my dad and I dont get along to well. I know hes my dad but I cant stand him sometimes. Sorry just releasing some steam.

the long thin bolts? the bolts that hold the alternator casing together?

or do you mean the long bolt that mounts it to the engine?

hmm, I believe its the bold the mounts it to the engine, I havent gotton under the car to look and see, but from where I was trying to get it back in yesterday it looks like the Mount to the engine. The alternator will move a little tiny bit if I try to move it. Im pretty sure its to the engine.

is the belt on?

the same thing happened to me about a month ago, the bolt came out and my belt snapped because the alternator was crooked.

I would recommend you take the alternator belt off if it isnt already. Then you should be able to move it around a lot more. Did the bolt come out completely? You might want to check the threads of the bolt, mine were completely worn and I had to replace the bolt, also, theres a really funky nut that holds the bolt in place, it has a big rectangular piece of metal welded to it, you might have to replace that to, or use a regular nut but the funky one would probably keep it from happening again.

Hope I could help.

I just remembered, you have to loosen the bolt securing the adjusting bolt, theadjusting bolt should be a long bolt, and then a small bolt on top of it, near the threads of the longer bolt
