Well, just today a new problem came out today. Heres a list of a bunch of stuff I noticed:1) The car is very bumpy/shakey at idle. The car's idle is set at about 850rpm.2) I think it was running rich today; as black smoke was coming out the tailpipe. It wasn't pouring out but the exhaust did have a black color to it. It also smelled rich.3) The car all of a sudden today started to sound horrible! It can best be desribed as "harleyish" It sounded like either a harley or a old school domestic. Its sounds so bad and it just started out of nowhere.4) The car seems to be sluggish. I bet it is related to the above 3 but i'm not sure where to start diagnosing. Thanks in advance for your help and suggestions.

p.s The car in question is a 1989 240sx with a bone stock ka24e and 163,xxxkm. The only mod is a Magnaflow muffler.

Thanks again.

start with basics 1) inspect plugs, wires, cap and rotor2) fuel pressure3) If 1 and 2 good . check coolant temp sensor for corrosion in terminal area.4) next check air flow voltage 1.0 to 1.4 volts at idle. 5) check main harness by moving it around at back of valve cover. do this by gently pulling it forward and pushing it rear ward a couple times also try to push it down ward about the center of the valve cover.

Check out this thread:

Seafoam is good stuff when it comes to these older higher mileage engines.

I wouldn't be so quick to praise seafoam, that stuff cost me $20 for 3 cans, and I didn't get this amazing difference like everyone, however it did seem to help a bit.

Check all the basics, SEARCH, there are probably millions of threads on this. Check air filter, spark plugs, wires, it's probably something basic like that.

Should be an easy fix
