Stumbling & Airbag light

Hey All,

Got a strange problem with my '97 240sx. Out of the blue, on my way home from work as I'm pulling into my apartment the airbag light comes on and starts blinking. I thought that weird. Then, the car starts running like crap! It was stumbling very badly. I had to floor the gas to get it into a parking space. Then, every time I started the car the airbag light would come on and start blinking and the car would stumble itself to death.

So I replaced the battery, plugs, wires, distributor & cap b/c I had them on hand and filled up the gas tank. Now, the problem seems to be better but not fixed. I made it to the gas station, but as I was pulling in the car stumbled getting to the pump. Which happened to be right after I sat a long light. I left the gas station and got home without incident. The airbag light was blinking at me the whole way there and back.

My first question is, can the airbag light and the stumbling be related or are these two separate problems that started happening at exactly the same time? Second question is, does anyone have an idea of what I should do next?

Get a code reader on it, sounds like its doing a number of things.

damn dude, at first I was thinking of some stupid fail safe it might have that is stalling out the car since the airbag is not working properly. But last time I checked 240's don't have a 5 star crash safety rating and have no such feature. might be a short somewhere by the ECU. for example I know people on here have found deal/live rodents in their cars and they like to chew on stuff. ORif there is a leak by the ECU and its getting down into the big connector and the wires maaaaaybe, but that's a long shot. Besides I don't have airbags and never worked on them.
