SO here's the scoop:

i have run all the necessary cables but i cannot for the life of me find a place to get the power line from the engine compartment into the cabin. i would, if possible, like to run the power line into the passenger side so that i'm not running it across the engine bay. i ran the line from the trunk all the way to the passenger side footwell, but now i'm stuck. i took apart the glovebox to see if there was a way in, and i also looked at the firewall from the engine side, but i cannot for the life of me figure out how to do this.

those of you that have BTDT, can you advise?

also, if anyone has any ideas on how to run the cables thru the cabin, right now they're poking out by the front seat belts, pretty ghetto. i'd like to run them under the carpet, but i'm afraid to pull the carpet and then not be able to tuck it back under...

thanks in advance for the help chris

EDIT: "To get the power wire from in the engine bay into the cabin you can follow the hood release cable through the grommet. Use a metal coat hanger to poke through it and then tape the wire to the hanger and pull like Hell! LOL. Or you can either drill another hole and put a grommet in place, or punch out one of the existing grommets."

i read this in a different post by PoorManQ45..... is this the only (reasonable) way to get the power wire into the cabin? i do not want to drill a new hole or really do anything that would alter the way Infiniti sent the car to my grandad (RIP) 18 years ago....

after reading all of that it looks as though i will have to spend some more time pulling my ghetto install apart and getting the wires where they belong, underneath the carpet....

EDIT # 2....i took the Q to a qualified shop and he found a way to get thru a grommet on the passenger side thru a big bundle of wires.... pretty sure it was some of the ECU and what not. since i'm running a small amp (360 rms mono) and the power wire isn't all that thick (8 gauge) i think i should be ok, ie i'm not worried about interferance with the factory ECU. however who knows time will tell. if you guys think i'm playing with fire let me know and i'll rip it out ASAP.

so here's my "system"

HU : Aiwa WD-X500M (double din cd/tape unit)front and rear speakers are pioneers, rears are TS-A690R (i think?) i'd have to pull the doors to see what the fronts are.

sub: one oldschool kicker comp 12 inch in a sealed boxamp: (Puts on flamesuit) Power Acoustik TS620-2

right... i was ok with the sound before i put in the sub, i just wanted to give the interior speakers a break with the bass, and have a more pronounced kick drum, bass guitar etc. i don't listen to rap or hip hop, but i listen to loud rock and roll and some electronic stuff like Air and Justice, and i wanted to be able to really crank it up.

so now i like where i'm at. maybe in the future i'll upgrade my front speakers to get more definition and clarity, but right now i'm pretty happy with the overall sound. if i crank it with the windows closed at any speed you can't hear anything but the stereo, and nothing is distorting. the next step would be to get a 4 channel amp and some better interior speakers, but i'm done spending money on this "luxury" stuff for a while.

call crutchfield... (it doesn't matter if you bought anything from them or not) the techs have master sheets that explain the best way to take things apart and run wires when installing that stuff... it's what professional shops use as a guide when installing things for you.

Alternatively you can buy mastersheets from them for $5 or get them free when you order something else.

I've installed a dozen or so systems and 95% of the Japanese cars I've encountered had a large pass through on the DRIVERS side (remember this is the passenger's side in Japan) covered by a large rubber plug... You can then cut a hole int he rubber plug to feed the wire through...

If you're dead set on feeding it through on the passenger's side keep in mind that the ECU is on the passenger's side and has a huge f-ing bundle of wires passed through the firewall into the engine bay... so obviously there's a hole for that somewhere...

Though personally I'd be worried about interference with the ECU if I ran the power line on the passenger's side at all...

no digi camera right now....

when i looked at the firewall from the passenger side yeah i did see that huge fing bundle of wires going thru.... and i tried to follow it into the cabin but man is it tied up pretty tight.... not alot of room for any other wires.

i'm going to look at the drivers side firewall and see if there's an entrance to the cabin from there...... if i can't find anything i'm going to call the gurus at crutchfield.

word.

1) i looked at the firewall and i could not for the life of me find where to punch in on the drivers side.

2) i followed the hood release cable from inside the cabin to the grommet, i took a coat hanger and punched it thru on that side, but i could not see where it came out on the other side......

3) i called crutchfield and they said the master sheets do not cover where to punch thru the firewall.

what is my next step here guys?

EDIT:

ok well i've pretty much given up on being able to do this myself.so now i'm taking it to a shop. they're going to drill thru the passenger side firewall, which i'm not crazy about but it'll be with grommets and professional so there you go.

the bottom line? the Q45 is not a 500 dollar flippin chevy chevette, ya dig? while i'd love to be able to do this kind of stuff myself, i'm a joe, not a pro, and i'm more afraid of damageing my ride than i am confident in my abilities not to mess anything up.......

but i do apprecitate the help. for reals.
