is anyone else having this issue? ive changed my own oil a few times now.
each time the oil filter has been stuck.

first two changes were oaid for so i dont know if they encountered any problems.

first time i changed my oil, i resorted to shoving a screw driver through the filter.
2nd time i tried two separate oil filter wrenches, first plastic, then switched to a metal one because they were both slipping. i ended up putting 3 pairs of rubber gloves and hammering on the oil filterwrench to get a super tight grip. which after i could not remove the filter wrench.
3rd time i went to a friends, he also ended up demolishing the filter.
after that time i switched to k&n filters by recommendations
and it was just the other day that i tried removing this filter, and it was stuck so damn much that even the bolt on the end started to strip. i do notice that it was the quality of the bolt on the filter, the edges seemed to be rounded off which did encourage stripping. i ended up having to screw driver this one as well.

im totally not lookin forward to my next oil change, especially with all these complications. the rest of the oil change is a breeze, just removing the damn filter is a pain in the f*** a**

theyve always been put on hand tight, oil has been rubbed into the gaskets
this last time i put a significantly more amount of oil into the gaskets, with me even removing the gasket first, before installing

when you go to put on the new filter, does it go on (thread) easily? it's kinda weird your having this problem if your lubing the filter seal and putting them on hand tight (not with a tool)

yep, it threads on smoothly just like it should be. it def is gasket related it seems, as once its loosened up it can be removed, its just the initial part of moving it which is difficult

idk but all oil filters are hard to remove, it could just be you arent using a good oil filter tool to remove it. here's a link to the best tool to remove an oil filter (in my mind):http://www.google.com/products/catalog? ... CDkQ8gIwAA . I'm not saying buy this one but get this style, goes onto a 3/8ths ratchet and the tighter the filter the tighter it gets :naughty:, get a nice extension as well and it makes it a heck of a lot easier to do . another thing, you should NEVER remove the seal from the filter, it could cause the filter to leak. take your finger, dip it into the oil and rub it on the seal and your good to go :) !

I change my own oil to in the summer and usually pay in the winter since im lazy and dont have a garage. When they do it it is pretty tight on there. Kind of weird though when you do if u hand tighten it and it tightens up that much. I use a K&N to and have never really had any problems, the nut on top helps a ton.

I have this issue time to time with the two 496 motors in my boat due to the heat plus my filters for that are smooth with no nut on top. Just a word of caution... stay far away from plastic oil filter wrenchs. I had one break and push through the oil filter which caused the sharp metal to tear through my thumb. From now on its gloves and metal for me.
