1996 Maxima GXE 5-spI've been having trouble starting the car, so I've been searching for the problems on here, but so far I haven't found any difinitive answers.

The problem (cliffs at the bottom, for you lazy bastoids):The car has been starting in the morning/ after work.. basically anytime after it has been sitting for a while, but the other day when I stopped for gas, the car wouldn't turn on. It wouldn't even crank... just a click (which I'm assuming is the starter solenoid working). I was at the BP for about 30 min, and after I kept playing with it, it started right up and drove fine. The car has been slower and slower to start since I've had it.. about 3 weeks now, and last night, I let my friend check out my car (I was bragging about how my daily driver was better than his), and go figure, the car didn't start. We wound up pop starting it and then it ran fine. We got back after a 2 min drive and after I turned it off, it didn't start again, but I figured it would after it sat for a while. I went to the bar with my buddy, and when we got back 2 something hours later, I got in the car.. and sure enough it wouldn't start. Just that click, didn't even crank at all.

Soooo... how can I determine my exact problem? I don't have money to start guessing and can't afford to replace everything ignition system related. I have no CEL or any other indication that something is wrong.

I thought it had to be the coil packs/ignition cylinder at first, but now I'm convinced its the starter. Help!

most likely the contacts are worn out in the starter solenoid. I'm not sure if Nissan sels replacement ones but they run about $20 for other cars that I have replaced. if they aren't available unfortunatly its time for a new starter.

My 95 has been through two starters at 156K

Its easier to take off the starter than the air plumbing forthe throttle body.
