Not sure how to fix yours, but if you remove it you may be able to troubleshoot or lubricate it. Here is how to do that on a manual unit (do Infinitis even have manual units?):

Remove the center trim panel around the control assembly.

Remove the four screws retaining the control assembly to the instrument panel.

Pull the control assembly, disconnect the three connectors, and detach the two control cables.

Pull off the knob from the front side of the assembly, then depress the plastic tabs on the back of the switch to remove it from the control panel.

Interestingly enough, there's a self-diagnostic mode for the auto-AC. I'll have to check that out on my own truck.

See HA-35 in the FSM: http://www.nicoclub.com/FSM/QX4/1998_QX4/ha.pdf Step 3 of the procedure checks the door positions. HA-56 addresses it if the system check returns false.

Good luck!

Awesome so in step 2 I got code 26 and -26, looks like blend motor is bad. Where is this located and how do I get to it

Ha, I guess HA-94 (as directed by Step 12, page ref 6) doesn't give much info except to loop back to HA-50.

The blend door is located near the heater in the passenger side footwell. It'll be somewhere behind/between the lower portion of the center console and glovebox, and you may need to remove the glovebox to access it. Be careful tugging on any bulk wiring.

HA-50 does give you some pins to probe on the back of the AC control unit (what it appears to be calling the "auto amp") and closer to the motor. Because it's a motor, you should be able to pass a 12v signal to the leads (once you determine polarity) and test for motion. But first, a visual inspect for any broken tabs or control linkages would be good, as well as attempting to disconnect the linkage to to see if the door is jammed. You may need to remove the motor to test this.
