Rear caliper slide pins seizing is super common on older G's and M's, at least in salt states. Yes, the caliper bracket can be heated until the seized slide pin shoots out like a rocket across the garage like a stray bullet, but for the cost of a Carquest caliper, I'd advise to just replace them. Make sure to lube the pins well and make sure the little rubber boots are secure so moisture stays out.steve_c wrote:No issues that I know of with these calipers seizing.
One issue of note about these brakes has been the passenger side emergency brake lining cracking & chipping off the shoe on the bottom edge of the lining.
I had read forum chatter on that, and sure enough, first time I dug into my rear brakes, I found the same issue!
I am not aware of any problems it has caused anyone.
Back to the calipers & pins, On my M, the lower pins in the rear are slightly different in size, shape & sealing from the upper pin. It has a double seal. I have a very early built 2006, (July 2005 build). Take note of your pins on disassembly for any differences, and what location they were removed from!
If your caliper is seized, it could be from damage due to old contaminated brake fluid in the caliper. What is the history of brake fluid servicing with your car?
