Hey guys i installed a lsd (idk the brand if you can help identify that would be great) into my s13 and have approx 1/16" play up and down/ not in and out. When pulling out my open diff there was no play in the stubs. Everything fits fine but there is the play issue. I bought it off a very experienced 240 builder. He pulled the diff out of a car he was selling and i bought the lsd with the stubs that came out of the housing (no play or issues when pulled) Any help would be greatly appreciated. I will be taking my micrometer to the stubs i pulled out and the ones i put in to see if there are any differences. I cant upload the pic but i will email it to anyone that can help.

That's a new one. Usually the play is due to worn/non-engaged c-clips, but that would produce an in/out play as well, not just an up/down play. I'm assuming the play is in all ranges of motion, ie fore/aft, up/down, all the diagonals in between. One thing you can do is take the cover off and watch the diff when you're check the stub play and see if the unit itself is moving. It could be the pre-load of the shims are REALLY low allowing it to move somewhat, or the bearings could be bad. Hopefully someone else can chime in that might have experienced something like this.

Ya I have checked it out and it's in all directions, the play is still there. The stubs are moving inside the unit. I had the guy who I bought it from and another tech at my shop look at it and they both think it will be fine but it really concerned me.
