I am doing the suspention on my s14 w/ sleeve coilovers and new struts. What would be the best choice. tokico's koni's or kyb's. I can't afford a full tein or apexi coilover system but still want to do the job relativley right. I am looking for the best handling not the best ride quality. Though I don't want to feel every cigarette butt I run over. Any personel experiances or advice would be great.

Konis offer the best range of adjustability on the valving but quite a few folks have had success with the AGX for street applications. How will you be using the car? What other modifications will you be doing to the suspension? Check out our suspension page here:

From personal experience, the Koni's are a much better strut than the KYBs. I am now starting to regret not running Konis from the start. I had ordered them in the beginning but returned them when I found out the rears were not externally adjustable (you have to remove the strut to adjust it). I should have kept them, installed them, and eventually gotten them revalved and had the rears made to be externally adjustable. Instead I purchased a set of KYB Buzz Specs (basically; short stroke, more aggressively dampened AGXs). I got the Buzz Specs b/c AGX's do not like to be lowered a lot and even though my car is not 'gangsta gangsta' slammed, I wanted to be safe.

My Koni experience comes from my g/f's car. She's got an Integra w/ Koni adjustables and Ground Controls. They are definitely better feeling than the Buzz Specs. My AGX experience comes from countless friends that use them. I don't have any first hand experience w/ Tokico though, sorry. BTW, my setup consists of the KYB Buzz Specs, Ground Controls (450f, 350r), and Tein Camber plates up front.

Don't feel like you're selling yourself short. A set of revalved Konis for some Ground Controls will most certainly handle better than a lot of the JDM stuff out there.

I mainly want to upgrade the suspension to enhance my everyday driving routine. The car might be taken for some autocross events, but that is for fun not competition. I would like to also change out the bushings to urethane and add front and rear strut ties. Sometime in the future the sway bars might also be replaced but that's in the air for right now. Thanks for the advice.

Buy the Konis then. They are smoother than KYB's in my experience, but don't get spring rates as high as mine.
