Are the Struts a DIY job on a 93 J30? It looks like I can rent/borrow the strut spring tool to compress the springs. If so, what else do I need besides a lot of patience?

Looked into this myself

Need a ball joit separator for the steering and lower control arm

Good vise to hold the assmebly

big wrench to loosen nut that holds the case. Unit is not like other struts but has a cartridge inside that is replaced.

Suggest going t local shop to have the springs removed and installed.

Look at lower control arm, ball joints, strut top bushing and tension rod bushings while you have everything apart. Replace what is needed at thsi time to save disassembly later

Suggest you get manual on ebay, not the CD. A big help

That sounds more involved than I have time for right now. Thanks for your help. Luckily I still have the original manual for future jobs.

Another question for you:I see that nissan/infiniti wants approx $275 per each new strut. However, infinitipartsusa.com sells struts for this car for $100/$130 front/rear. What gives?

Can I replace the whole strut assembly? Or is it better to just replace the cartridge.

infiniti parts usa has the strut cartridge which inserts into the holder.

Infiniti is tryingto sell you the whole assembly. Not necessary

do a search on this site and you will find some good info
