I found quite a few options online in the 200-300 range. Not bad for complete sets. KYB and Monroe seem to be quite a bit more. I'm not aware of any steer clear brands though, so I'm not much help.

Yes, a new headlight assembly should have the lights aligned after installation. It's a tweak done with screwdrivers, so you could do it yourself. Just park in front of a flat wall at night and aim your bright spot accordingly. There's tutorials online that pretty much cover the procedure.

I put a set of Monroe Quick Struts on my '02 I 35. Total installed, and alignment about $1,100 at my local Sears. Ride is a bit comfy, but fine. For same $ I would go for the KYB, but Sears didn't stock them.
