Strut Tower WASTED

So had a friend hook up a scanner to the comp just to see whats up, nothing came up, he popped the hood to just take a look, and I looked near the header at the strut tower and what do I see.... The tower itself has seperated from the subframe, not only that but its cracking the rest of the way to the front of the tower. WTF. This wasnt like this when I bought it, I would have noticed it when i removed the AIV.

I searched, found that this isnt too common a problem. What could have caused this, and I guess Im done with this 240sx.

Strut Tower area is definatly a key spot to look out for rust up here,

At the top where it connects tot he fenders, the seams running down the side, and where it connects to the frame.

another one bites the dust. im waiting for a welder to come on site to plate my shell. oil leak saved it. the donor is destroyed. common issue with these cars its the road salt. they stress fracture easily too. the metal is just too thin in that area. tower brace helps but once its isnt ridgid the alignment wont hold. the next one is getting checked and power washed every spring. considering a tanabe under brace as reinforcement too

I would recommend every one check theirs. if it started scrape it out strip the area wire wheel it down to bare metal dissolve it out with naval jelly. take pics to a body shop ask em to plate it if its bad. buy a por15 starter kit for $16. etch it prime it topcoat and keep an eye on it.
